Sound familiar?

Payroll taking up time you do not have?

Most Devon business owners did not start their company to spend Friday afternoons checking PAYE codes and filing RTI submissions. Payroll is one of those compliance tasks that has to be right every time — a missed deadline or miscalculated deduction costs more than just the penalty. And if you have CIS subcontractors or directors on split salary and dividend structures, the complexity adds up quickly.

  • ✕ RTI submissions missed or filed late, triggering HMRC penalties
  • ✕ Director salary and dividend split not optimised, costing unnecessary tax
  • ✕ CIS deductions unverified, leaving subcontractors and HMRC in dispute

What a handled payroll looks like

Every payroll run processed, filed and confirmed before the deadline. You receive a clear payslip summary, PAYE liability figure and anything else you need — in plain English, on time.

  • ✓ RTI submissions processed and confirmed every payday, without chasing
  • ✓ Director salary and dividend structure reviewed and set to minimise tax legally
  • ✓ CIS subcontractor verifications and monthly returns filed accurately each period
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills at year end

Why DG Accountancy

What makes payroll genuinely easier here

There is no shortage of payroll providers. What is rarer is an ACCA-qualified accountant who processes your payroll, answers your questions and knows how your business is structured — all in one place.

📋

Payroll and accounts under one roof

When payroll, PAYE liabilities and year-end accounts are all handled by the same person, the numbers talk to each other. Director salary levels are set with tax efficiency in mind, not just processing convenience. No reconciliation headaches between two separate providers who have never spoken.

Questions answered the day you ask

Payroll questions rarely arrive at a convenient time — a subcontractor wants to know their deduction, an employee has a query about their payslip, or HMRC sends an unexpected notice. You will hear back the same day, in plain English, without being put on a waiting list.

🎯

Cross-sector experience that pays off

Daniel has run payroll across construction, manufacturing, entertainment and professional services over 20 years. CIS schemes, irregular pay cycles, director-only PAYE setups — none of it requires lengthy explanation before getting a useful answer. You get an accountant who already knows how your payroll works.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded and their first payroll run processed within a week of signing up. The process is designed to be as low-effort for you as possible.

1

Book a free discovery call

We talk through your current payroll setup, number of employees or subcontractors, and any existing PAYE or CIS obligations. No sales pressure — just a clear picture of what is involved and whether we are the right fit.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a written quote tailored to your payroll complexity and employee headcount. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.

3

Onboarding and HMRC setup

We take over your PAYE scheme with HMRC, gather employee and subcontractor details, and connect everything to Xero. If your previous records need tidying, we handle that too — most clients are fully set up within a week.

4

Payroll runs like clockwork

Every payroll period your payslips are processed, RTI is filed and your PAYE liability is confirmed before you need to pay. Payroll becomes something that simply happens — accurately, on time, without you having to think about it.

Questions

Payroll questions, answered plainly

Do you handle CIS payroll as well as standard PAYE?+

Yes. CIS and PAYE payroll are both covered. Subcontractors are verified with HMRC before any payment is made, monthly CIS returns are filed on time, and deduction statements are issued to each subcontractor each period. If you run a mixed workforce — some employees on PAYE, some subcontractors under CIS — that is managed within the same service.

What does payroll actually cost each month?+

Payroll is included within the Limited Company packages at the Operate tier and above, covering between one and twenty employees depending on the package. For businesses outside those tiers, payroll is available as an add-on at a fixed monthly fee agreed upfront. There are no per-payslip charges or hidden costs — the fee is set before we start and does not change unless your headcount changes significantly.

My payroll records are a mess. Is it still worth switching?+

It is usually fine, and it is a more common starting point than you might expect. Before the first payroll run, we review your existing PAYE records, reconcile any outstanding liabilities and tidy up the employer account with HMRC. Depending on the state of the records, there may be a one-off catch-up fee — this is quoted transparently before any work begins.

Is there a long-term contract?+

No. Services run on a rolling monthly basis. If you decide to leave, you give notice and we hand over your payroll records, PAYE history and login credentials in good order. You will not be left without the information you need to continue with another provider.

Can you set up a new PAYE scheme if I am taking on my first employee?+

Yes. Registering as an employer with HMRC and setting up a new PAYE scheme is included within the onboarding process. We handle the registration, issue the employer reference and get the first payroll run processed before the payment date. It is worth doing this before the employee’s first payday rather than retrospectively.

How should I structure a director salary to keep tax efficient?+

Most limited company directors benefit from taking a low PAYE salary alongside dividends, but the optimal split depends on whether you have other income, what your company profits look like and how much you want to retain in the business. This is reviewed as part of the onboarding process and revisited each tax year — not set once and forgotten.
