Sound familiar?
Books that are weeks behind and a tax bill you cannot predict.
Running a business in Devon — whether you are a tradesperson in Newton Abbot, a retailer in Exeter or a landlord across Torbay — leaves very little time for bookkeeping. Records pile up, VAT quarters sneak past, and by the time year-end arrives the books are in a state that takes weeks to untangle. It is not unusual. It is also entirely avoidable.
- Bank statements unreconciled for months, with no clear picture of profit
- VAT return due with no certainty whether the figures are correct
- Year-end arrives and the books need a significant catch-up before anything can be filed
What kept-up books look like
When your bookkeeping runs monthly in Xero, your numbers are always current. VAT quarters land on time. Year-end is a formality rather than a crisis. And your accountant can actually tell you where you stand.
- Bank feeds reconciled monthly — profit and cash position clear at any point
- VAT figures prepared and checked before the quarter closes — no last-minute guesswork
- Year-end accounts filed from clean, current records — no catch-up scramble
- One fixed monthly fee, agreed before we start — you always know what you are paying
What Devon clients say about the books
From sole traders managing their first set of accounts to limited companies needing monthly bookkeeping, the feedback tends to centre on two things: responsiveness and clarity.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.
Professional service. This company does my accounts every year and i never have to worry about it. Speedy as well. I am a very happy customer.
Bookkeeping that actually keeps up
Three core services that keep your records current, your VAT compliant and your year-end straightforward — all delivered online, all priced on a fixed monthly fee.
Monthly Bookkeeping in Xero
Your transactions are categorised, reconciled and reviewed every month in Xero. Bank feeds connect automatically, so very little lands on your desk. MTD compliance is built in from day one.
Included as standardVAT Returns and MTD Filing
Quarterly VAT is prepared from your live Xero records and filed directly with HMRC before the deadline. Your VAT threshold is monitored throughout the year — you will not be caught out by an obligation you were not expecting.
Included from Operate tierYear-End Accounts and Tax
When the year closes, your records are already clean — which means accounts and Corporation Tax or Self Assessment returns are prepared and filed promptly, without the usual scramble. You know your tax bill well before HMRC sends the reminder.
Included across all tiersConsistent results across different clients
Sole traders, limited company directors and self-employed professionals across Devon and the UK — the experience tends to be the same: clear communication, quick turnaround, no jargon.
Mortgage Deadline Met Without Cutting Corners
“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners.”
Self-Employment Tax Handled Alongside Full Workload
“Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!”
Complex Accounts Finalised With Full Explanation
“Absolutely recommend Daniel for all and any accounts related matter. Would use his expertise again. He is the most amazing person, very professional, explaining every detail meticulously in order to finalise our accounts.”
Why Devon businesses choose us over a local high-street firm
Online delivery, qualified expertise and a reputation for answering quickly — three things that most accountants promise and fewer consistently deliver.
Twenty Years Across Different Industries
Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — which means he has seen how businesses of very different shapes operate, where the risks sit and what the numbers actually mean. You do not need to spend the first call explaining your business from scratch.
Questions Answered the Day You Ask
DG Accountancy is consistently reviewed for fast replies and clear communication. When a question comes in — whether it is about a supplier invoice or a VAT registration threshold — you get an answer the same day, in plain English. No chasing, no waiting until next week.
Cloud Bookkeeping That Runs Itself
Everything is managed in Xero with live bank feeds, automated categorisation and real-time reporting. Your records are current whether you log in daily or monthly. No spreadsheets to email over, no end-of-quarter fire drills.
Up and running in four straightforward steps.
Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to require as little of your time as possible.
Book a free discovery call
A short conversation about your business, your current records and what you actually need from a bookkeeper. No sales pitch — just an honest discussion about whether it makes sense to work together.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
You will get a clear, written quote covering exactly what is included and what it costs each month. Everything is agreed before any work begins — no open-ended hourly rates and no surprises later.
Onboarding and Xero setup
Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds are connected and any catch-up work is scoped and costed separately if needed. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and you do very little of the legwork.
Ongoing support, nothing to chase
Your bookkeeping runs monthly, VAT quarters are handled on time and your year-end is a formality rather than an event. Questions get answered the day you ask them, and you always know where you stand financially.
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
Things Devon business owners usually ask first
Do you work with businesses across Devon, or only in Torquay?
DG Accountancy is based in Torquay but operates as a fully online practice. Clients are served across Devon — Exeter, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Paignton, Teignmouth and beyond — as well as the rest of the UK. Everything is handled remotely via Xero, video calls and secure file sharing, so geography does not affect the service.
What does bookkeeping cost and what is included?
Bookkeeping is priced on a fixed monthly fee tailored to your business structure and transaction volume — starting from £41 per month for sole traders and £79 per month for limited companies. The fee is agreed in writing before any work begins. There are no hourly rates, no hidden charges and no end-of-year surprises. VAT filing and payroll can be included or added depending on your tier.
My books are months behind — can you still help?
Frequently. Most new clients arrive with records that need some degree of catch-up work. That is scoped and costed separately as a one-off piece of work before the ongoing monthly service begins, so you know exactly what you are paying to get up to date. Once the catch-up is done, the monthly bookkeeping keeps everything current going forward.
Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?
No long-term contract. Services run month to month and you can leave with a month’s notice. If you do leave, your Xero records are clean and current — you take them with you and they are fully usable by any other accountant or bookkeeper.
What software do you use and will I need to buy it myself?
All bookkeeping is done in Xero. As a Xero Bronze Partner, DG Accountancy can include the Xero subscription within your monthly package, so you are not paying separately for the software. Bank feeds connect automatically and you can log in at any time to see your current figures.
Will you flag tax issues during the year, or only at year-end?
Because the books are kept current throughout the year, tax issues — VAT thresholds, Corporation Tax liabilities, allowable expenses — can be identified and flagged as they arise rather than surfacing as a problem when it is too late to act. Proactive communication is part of how the service runs, not an optional extra.
Bookkeeping off your plate, records you can trust.
Fixed monthly fee, Xero-based cloud bookkeeping, and an ACCA-qualified accountant who keeps your records current and answers the day you ask. No long-term contract.
