Sound familiar?

Not sure if your contract puts you inside IR35?

Since the off-payroll working rules changed in 2021, the responsibility for determining IR35 status shifted to the end-client — and many apply a blanket inside determination rather than assessing each role properly. If that determination is wrong, or your working practices do not match your contract, you are the one carrying the risk. Most contractors do not find out until HMRC comes looking.

  • ✕ Unsure whether your current contract genuinely sits outside IR35
  • ✕ Your end-client issued an inside SDS without properly assessing your role
  • ✕ Contract wording and day-to-day working practices are pulling in different directions

What a clear IR35 position looks like

Each engagement is assessed against HMRC’s actual employment status tests — substitution, control and mutuality of obligation. Your contract and working practices are reviewed together, not in isolation, so the determination reflects how the role actually works.

  • ✓ Your IR35 status assessed against HMRC’s tests before you accept a contract
  • ✓ End-client SDS challenged or supported with documented evidence where needed
  • ✓ Contract and working practices aligned so your outside determination is defensible
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no hidden hourly rates when questions come up

What you get

IR35 support that goes beyond a status check

A determination is only as strong as the evidence behind it. These are the three areas covered as part of ongoing IR35 support for contractors in Paignton.

01

IR35 Status Assessment

Each contract is assessed against the three core employment status tests HMRC applies — substitution, control and mutuality of obligation. You get a clear, written view of where the engagement sits and why, not just a yes or no.

Before you sign
02

Contract and Practice Review

A contract that says outside IR35 is not enough on its own if the day-to-day reality tells a different story. Your working arrangements are reviewed alongside the contract so both point in the same direction.

Protects your position
03

Ongoing Contractor Accounting

IR35 sits inside a broader picture — your limited company accounts, corporation tax, dividends, Self Assessment and payroll all need to reflect your status correctly. All compliance runs on a fixed monthly fee through Xero so nothing falls through the gaps.

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for contractors

IR35 advice is only useful if it comes from someone who understands how contracting actually works — not just what the legislation says.

🎯

20 years across real industries

Daniel has worked inside airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — sectors where contractor and employment distinctions have always mattered. That background means he already understands the working arrangements you are describing before you finish explaining them. You will not spend the call educating your accountant.

Answers the day you ask

IR35 questions rarely arrive at a convenient moment — a contract is on the table, the client wants a decision, and you need clarity now. DG Accountancy is known for fast replies and clear communication. You will not wait days for a simple determination question to be acknowledged.

📄

Plain English, not legislation

IR35 case law and HMRC guidance are genuinely complex. What you need is a clear view of where you stand and what, if anything, to change — not a recitation of the legislation. Daniel explains your position in language that makes sense, so you can make the call with confidence.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most contractors are onboarded within a week. The process is designed to take as little of your time as possible.

1

Book a free discovery call

You talk through your current contracts, your limited company set-up, and whether you have had any IR35 determinations issued. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about what you need and whether we are the right fit.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a clear, written quote covering exactly what is included. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprise invoices when an IR35 question comes up mid-contract.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

Your Xero account is set up or tidied, bank feeds are connected, and any historical records are brought into order. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and need to do very little themselves.

4

Compliance handled, status protected

Your IR35 position is documented, your accounts run on time, and you have an accountant who picks up the phone when a new contract lands. Which is, frankly, the way it should work.

Questions

What contractors usually ask first

Do you understand how IR35 actually works in practice, not just on paper?+

Yes — and the distinction matters. IR35 status depends on the reality of the working relationship, not just what the contract says. Daniel assesses each engagement against the three tests HMRC applies in practice: substitution, control and mutuality of obligation. If your working arrangements and your contract are telling different stories, that is identified and addressed before it becomes a problem.

What does IR35 support cost and what is included?+

Pricing depends on your limited company structure, the services required and how active your contracting is. Limited company packages start from £79 per month, with a 50% discount for the first three months. IR35 status assessments, contract reviews and ongoing compliance are discussed at the discovery call so you receive a written quote covering exactly what is included before committing to anything.

My books are behind and my contracts have never been reviewed. Is that a problem?+

It is a starting point, not a barrier. Catch-up bookkeeping and a review of historical contracts and determinations are a normal part of onboarding. The cost and timeframe for getting up to date will be included in your quote upfront — there are no surprise invoices once work begins.

Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?+

No. There is no minimum term. If the relationship is not working after a few months, you leave with your records in order and nothing outstanding. Most clients stay because the service is useful, not because the contract makes leaving awkward.

My end-client has issued an inside IR35 SDS. Can that be challenged?+

It can be, though the process depends on the client and the contract. Since April 2021, end-clients in the private sector are required to use a client-led disagreement process when a determination is disputed. Daniel can help you build the evidential case for your working arrangements and guide you through the formal challenge — whether that results in a changed determination or informs your decision about whether to accept the contract.

If I am genuinely outside IR35, how should my limited company be structured to be tax efficient?+

Outside IR35, you retain flexibility over how income is drawn — typically a combination of salary and dividends that minimises your overall tax position. The right split depends on your income level, personal circumstances and whether you have other income streams. Daniel reviews this annually as part of ongoing support so your structure remains sensible as your contracting income changes.
