Still not sure if your VAT setup is MTD-compliant?
Making Tax Digital for VAT has been mandatory for most VAT-registered businesses since 2022, yet plenty of Torquay business owners are still filing through outdated methods — or relying on software that is not properly linked to their records. The quarterly deadlines do not move, and HMRC penalties for late or incorrect submissions are not trivial.
- Filing VAT returns manually or through non-compliant software
- No digital link between your records and HMRC submissions
- Quarterly deadlines creeping up with no clear system in place
What compliant and current looks like
MTD for VAT does not need to be complicated. With Xero connected to your bank feeds and HMRC, your records are digital, your submissions are automated, and your quarterly deadlines are handled without you having to chase anything.
- Returns submitted through MTD-compatible software, every quarter
- A proper digital link from your records to every HMRC submission
- Deadlines managed for you — no diary reminders, no last-minute scramble
- Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills at quarter end
What Torquay clients say about working with us
Business owners across Torquay and Devon use DG Accountancy to keep their compliance current and their VAT submissions accurate. Here is what a couple of them said.
Daniel was very helpful and patient with me when I had no clue what to do and spoke through everything with me and made it clear, couldn’t recommend him enough, thank you again.
Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.
MTD for VAT — what the service covers
From initial setup through to quarterly filing, every part of your VAT compliance is handled. You will always know what is due, when it is due, and what to expect.
MTD Registration and Xero Setup
If you are not yet signed up for MTD for VAT, that is handled first. Xero is configured, your bank feeds connected, and your HMRC agent authorisation confirmed before a single return is filed. Most clients are fully set up within a week.
Included as standardQuarterly VAT Returns Filed
Each quarter, your figures are reviewed, reconciled and submitted to HMRC through MTD-compatible software. You will receive a clear summary of what was filed and what you owe — not just a confirmation number. No chasing, no last-minute calls.
Every quarter, on timeOngoing VAT Threshold Monitoring
Your taxable turnover is monitored as part of ongoing bookkeeping, so you will not cross the VAT threshold without knowing it or inadvertently fall below it without considering deregistration. Proactive flags, not retrospective surprises.
Proactive, not reactiveConsistently rated 5.0 across every review
Eight verified Google reviews, each from a different client with a different need. The common thread is responsiveness and clarity — which is rather the point.
Turned Around a Mortgage Application Fast
“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout.”
Insight That Actually Saved Money
“His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me.”
Removed the Self-Employment Tax Burden
“Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!”
What sets this practice apart from the rest
There is no shortage of accountants in Devon. Here is what makes the difference in practice.
MTD-Ready from Day One
Xero is set up correctly before the first return is ever filed — digital links in place, bank feeds connected, agent authorisation confirmed. You will not be scrambling to fix a non-compliant setup the week before a deadline. Everything is built for MTD from the start.
Questions Answered the Same Day
VAT queries have a habit of arriving urgently. DG Accountancy is known for fast, clear replies — you will not be waiting three days to find out whether a purchase is recoverable or what your next payment on account looks like. You ask, you get an answer.
No Jargon, Just Plain English
VAT notices and HMRC correspondence can read like a foreign language. Daniel translates what matters and explains your position in terms that make sense, so you understand what has been filed, why, and what to expect next. No cryptic emails, no unexplained numbers.

Most clients are fully onboarded and MTD-compliant within a week. Here is what the process looks like from your side.

Things people ask before getting started
Does Making Tax Digital for VAT actually apply to my business?
If your taxable turnover has ever exceeded the VAT registration threshold (currently £90,000), you are required to keep digital VAT records and file through MTD-compatible software. Voluntarily VAT-registered businesses below the threshold are also now covered under MTD for VAT. If you are unsure whether your current setup is compliant, that is exactly the sort of thing worth checking before HMRC flags it first.
What does MTD for VAT compliance cost on a monthly basis?
VAT filing is included in the Operate, Grow and Scale limited company packages from £195 per month, and in the higher sole trader package from £99 per month. For businesses that only need VAT returns as a standalone service, it is available as an add-on to the Start package. All pricing is fixed and agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no per-return charges.
My current records are not in great shape. Can you still get me MTD-compliant?
Yes, and this is fairly common. The first step is a review of where your records currently stand and what needs tidying before Xero can be set up correctly. Catch-up bookkeeping can be handled as part of onboarding if needed. The cost and timeline for that are agreed before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
Is there a minimum contract term or lock-in period?
No. There is no long-term contract. If the arrangement is not working for you, you can leave with one month’s notice. Your Xero data and records remain yours, and everything will be left in good order. The aim is to be worth staying with — not to make leaving difficult.
What software do you use for MTD submissions, and do I need to buy it separately?
DG Accountancy uses Xero, which is an HMRC-recognised MTD-compatible platform. Xero is included as part of the service — you do not need to purchase a separate subscription or manage the software yourself. Bank feeds are connected during onboarding, and the digital link between your records and HMRC submissions is maintained throughout.
Can you help me reclaim VAT on business purchases I have already made?
Input VAT on allowable business purchases can typically be reclaimed on your next VAT return, subject to the usual rules around business use and eligible expenditure. As part of ongoing compliance, your input tax position is reviewed each quarter. If there are items you are unsure about — particularly on mixed-use assets or capital purchases — those are worth raising before the return is filed.
Get your VAT compliance sorted for good.
Quarterly VAT returns filed on time, digital records kept correctly, and an ACCA-qualified accountant available when you need one. Fixed monthly fee, no long-term contract.
