Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books at the weekend?

A lot of Devon business owners keep their own bookkeeping going out of habit, not because it is the best use of their time. Transactions pile up. Bank feeds drift out of sync. By the time year-end arrives, the catch-up job is bigger than it needed to be. The numbers exist — they are just not quite telling you anything useful.

  • Reconciling transactions yourself each month instead of running your business
  • No clear picture of profitability until the accountant files at year-end
  • Unsure whether your records are MTD-compliant or ready for a VAT registration

What current books look like

When your bookkeeping is handled monthly in Xero, the numbers are always where they should be. You can see where the business stands without waiting for anyone to ‘open the books.’ Which is, frankly, the way it should work.

  • Monthly Xero reconciliation — your time stays on the business, not the spreadsheet
  • Quarterly or monthly summaries so you understand your position throughout the year
  • MTD-ready records from day one, VAT threshold monitored as standard
  • Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills at year-end

What Devon business owners say

From sole traders tidying up their first set of books to limited company directors wanting monthly visibility — the feedback tends to cover the same ground.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.

What you get

What the bookkeeping fee covers

Monthly bookkeeping in Xero, bank reconciliation, MTD compliance and the visibility to actually understand how your business is performing.

01

Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping

Transactions categorised, bank feeds reconciled and records kept current every month in Xero. No year-end scramble, no shoebox of receipts — just clean, accessible numbers whenever you need them. Most clients are connected and running within a week of onboarding.

Included as standard
02

MTD-Ready Records

Making Tax Digital applies to VAT-registered businesses now and is being extended to income tax. Your bookkeeping is set up in Xero to meet HMRC’s digital record-keeping requirements from the start. When the threshold or compliance date changes, your records are already in the right shape.

Built in from day one
03

Visibility and Plain-English Summaries

Numbers only help if you understand them. Alongside the bookkeeping, you get clear summaries of where the business stands — income, expenses, margins — explained in plain English. No cryptic reports, no waiting until year-end to find out whether you had a good quarter.

No jargon, no delay

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference day to day

There are plenty of accountants in Devon. The practical differences tend to show up in responsiveness, how clearly things are explained, and whether you actually understand your own numbers.

📊

Books That Are Always Current

Bookkeeping handled monthly in Xero means your records are never more than a few weeks behind. When a question arises — from a lender, a potential investor, or HMRC — the answer is available straight away. Waiting for someone to ‘get the books up to date’ is not part of the experience.

Questions Answered the Same Day

DG Accountancy is known for responding quickly. You will not spend days waiting for a simple answer about a transaction category or an expense claim. That kind of delay has a cost — in time, in decisions deferred, in frustration. It is largely avoidable when the accountant is accessible.

🎯

Twenty Years Across Real Businesses

Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — not just compliance practice. That breadth means he recognises the bookkeeping patterns and risks specific to different sectors without needing them explained. You get experienced judgement, not a process being followed for the first time.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to require as little from you as possible beyond a short initial conversation.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short call to talk through your business, your current bookkeeping set-up, and what you actually need. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about whether the fit is right and what a sensible package looks like.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You will get a clear, written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront. There are no hourly rates and no surprise additions at year-end.

3

Xero set-up and onboarding

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds are connected, and historical transactions are imported. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and have very little to do during this stage.

4

Books handled, you focus forward

Monthly bookkeeping runs in the background. Your records stay current, your tax position is visible, and your accountant is a message away. Less time on the numbers, considerably more on the business.

Questions

Things people usually ask before starting

Do you work with businesses across Devon or only in Torquay?+

DG Accountancy is based in Torquay but operates entirely online, serving clients across Devon — including Exeter, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Paignton and beyond — as well as the rest of the UK. All bookkeeping is handled via Xero, with bank feeds connected remotely. There is no need to drop anything off or travel anywhere.

What does bookkeeping cost and what is actually included?+

Pricing is a fixed monthly fee, agreed upfront and tailored to your business structure, turnover and the services you need. Sole trader bookkeeping packages start from £41 per month; limited company packages from £79 per month. Everything in the agreed scope is included — no hourly rate surprises and no add-ons you did not ask for. A written quote is provided before anything is agreed.

My books are behind. Can you catch them up?+

Catch-up bookkeeping is handled regularly — it is not an unusual starting point. The current state of your records is assessed during onboarding and any catch-up work is scoped and costed separately, so you know what it involves before it starts. Most clients arrive with books in some state of disarray and leave onboarding with everything current.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

There is no long-term contract. Monthly packages run on a rolling basis and you can leave with reasonable notice. If things are not working after the first three months, you leave with clean, up-to-date books and nothing further owed. The intention is to be worth keeping, not to make leaving difficult.

Which bookkeeping software do you use and will I need to learn it?+

All bookkeeping is done in Xero, which is cloud-based and accessible from any device. Most clients use it primarily to check their numbers rather than to do any data entry themselves — the day-to-day bookkeeping is handled for you. If you want a walkthrough of how to read your reports or use the invoicing tools, that is included as part of the onboarding.

Will I be able to see my tax position throughout the year, not just at year-end?+

Yes. With current bookkeeping in place, an estimate of your tax liability is visible at any point — not just when the accountant files. For limited company directors this includes both Corporation Tax and self-assessment obligations. Knowing your approximate tax bill months before it is due makes cash flow planning considerably more straightforward.
