Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books at the weekend?

Most London sole traders start out managing their own finances because it seems manageable. It stops being manageable around the time clients, deadlines and tax obligations all arrive at once. The Self Assessment deadline feels further away than it is, until it does not. And finding time to reconcile invoices, track expenses and stay MTD-compliant while actually doing the work you are paid to do is, frankly, a lot to ask.

  • Self Assessment left until January, filed in a rush with something probably missed
  • No clear picture of what the tax bill will be until it lands from HMRC
  • Receipts and records piling up with no system to keep them straight

What sorted looks like

Your compliance runs on a schedule you do not have to manage. Tax is visible well before it is due. Records are current, organised and MTD-ready. You ask a question, you get an answer the same day.

  • Self Assessment filed accurately and on time, well before the January rush
  • Your estimated tax bill known months ahead so you can plan around it
  • Bookkeeping maintained monthly so nothing needs unpicking at year-end
  • Fixed monthly fee from £41 — agreed upfront, no surprise bills

What London sole traders say

Clients come to DG Accountancy because compliance is overdue or confusing. They stay because it stops being either of those things.

★★★★★

I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.

What you get

Everything a sole trader in London needs

Each package includes the compliance essentials, with cloud bookkeeping, dedicated access to Daniel and proactive communication built in as standard.

01

Self Assessment, Filed on Time

Your personal tax return is prepared and submitted accurately, with enough lead time to review the numbers before anything goes to HMRC. You will know your tax liability well before January, which means you can set aside the right amount and avoid last-minute surprises. Complex income streams — freelance, rental, employment alongside self-employment — are all handled.

Included as standard
02

Monthly Bookkeeping via Xero

Your records are kept current every month through Xero, with bank feeds connected and transactions categorised correctly. MTD compliance is built in from the start, so there is nothing to retrofit when the rules apply to you. Year-end is a formality rather than a scramble.

Cloud-based and MTD-ready
03

VAT Returns and Tax Planning

If you are VAT-registered or approaching the threshold, quarterly returns are filed on time and the scheme that suits your business is reviewed from the outset. Beyond compliance, Daniel flags deductible expenses you may be missing and reviews your structure if your income grows. Proactive, not just reactive.

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for sole traders

There is no shortage of accountants. The ones who are worth switching to are the ones who understand your situation before you explain it, reply promptly and charge a fee that makes sense.

🎯

Twenty Years Across Real Businesses

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — industries where margins are tight, cash flow matters and compliance is not optional. That breadth means he already understands the pressures self-employed professionals face, not just the tax forms that come with them. You get experience that was earned in the field, not just in practice.

Questions Answered the Day You Ask

When something lands in your inbox from HMRC or a client asks for financial information, waiting three days for a reply is not useful. DG Accountancy is known for fast, clear responses during office hours. You deal directly with Daniel — not a junior, not a ticket system, not a queue.

☁️

Fully Online, No Disruption to Your Day

Everything runs through Xero, secure file sharing and video calls. There are no trips to an office, no posting documents and no waiting for someone to open a filing cabinet. For sole traders in London who are already juggling a full schedule, that is largely the point.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to take as little of your time as possible.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current set-up and what you need from an accountant. No sales pitch — just an honest discussion about whether this is a good fit. You will leave knowing exactly what happens next.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A clear, written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you actually need. Everything is agreed before any work begins, so there are no surprises on the invoice later.

3

Onboarding and Xero setup

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds are connected and everything we need is collected securely. If your books are behind, catch-up is handled as part of onboarding. Most clients are live within a week.

4

Compliance runs, you focus forward

Deadlines are met, returns are filed and your tax position stays visible throughout the year. When questions come up, answers come back the same day. The parts of running a business that used to take up your Sunday evenings are, for the most part, no longer your problem.

Questions

Things sole traders usually ask first

I am based in London — does being fully online actually work for sole traders?+

Yes, and for most sole traders it works better than the alternative. Everything is handled through Xero, secure document sharing and video calls — no office visits, no posting paperwork. Clients across the UK manage their accounts this way without any inconvenience, and the communication is faster than it would be waiting for an in-person appointment.

What does a sole trader package actually cost, and what is included?+

Sole trader packages start from £41 per month, covering HMRC registration, Self Assessment, Making Tax Digital compliance, unlimited invoicing and a dedicated accountant. A higher-tier package from £99 per month adds VAT filing. All fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts — no hourly rates, no unexpected additions. The first three months are available at 50% off.

My books are behind and I am not sure what state they are in. Is that a problem?+

It is a common starting point, not an obstacle. Catch-up bookkeeping is handled as part of the onboarding process. Daniel will assess what needs doing, quote for it separately if the volume is significant and get things straight before ongoing monthly work begins. Arriving with books in some state of disarray is, frankly, the norm rather than the exception.

Am I locked into a contract if I sign up?+

No. There is no long-term contract. If it is not the right fit after the first three months, you leave with your books clean, your records transferred and nothing owed beyond the work completed. The aim is that you stay because the service is worth staying for, not because leaving is difficult.

I have income from multiple sources alongside my self-employment — can you handle that?+

Yes. Self Assessment returns covering employment income, rental income, dividends, freelance earnings and other streams are straightforward to handle once the records are organised correctly. Daniel will make sure each source is reported accurately and that allowable deductions are applied — including expenses that sole traders frequently overlook.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

With bookkeeping kept current, your estimated tax liability can be projected at any point during the year. In practice, most clients have a clear picture of what they owe by October or November — well before the January Self Assessment deadline. That gives time to set the money aside rather than finding a shortfall in January.
