Tax Planning Torbay

Tax Planning — Torbay

Keep more of what your business earns, legally and confidently.

Most Torbay business owners pay more tax than they need to — not through any fault of their own, but because no one has looked at their structure and flagged the options. Daniel reviews your position proactively, explains what is available in plain English, and acts before deadlines force your hand. Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified, same-day replies.

  • Your tax position reviewed before the year-end crunch
  • Corporation Tax and dividend strategy explained clearly
  • Allowances and reliefs identified before they are missed
  • No surprise bills — your liability known well in advance

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with your tax affairs in order and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill will be this year?

Most small business owners in Torbay only think about tax when HMRC sends a reminder. By then, the planning window has closed and the bill is what it is. The reliefs that could have reduced it — dividend strategy, pension contributions, allowable expenses, R&D credits — needed attention months earlier. One conversation at the wrong time of year is worth considerably less than consistent, proactive advice throughout it.

  • ✕ Tax bill arrives as a surprise with no time left to act
  • ✕ Allowances and reliefs missed because no one flagged them in time
  • ✕ Dividend and salary mix never formally reviewed against your actual position

What proactive tax planning looks like

Tax planning is not a once-a-year conversation. It is a series of decisions made at the right points in your financial year, with someone who already knows your numbers. That is what you get here.

  • ✓ Your tax liability estimated and visible well before the deadline
  • ✓ Reliefs, allowances and planning opportunities flagged as they arise
  • ✓ Dividend and salary strategy reviewed and optimised for your structure
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no bill arriving after every conversation

What clients say about tax advice

Business owners across Torbay and Devon trust DG Accountancy for proactive tax support that goes beyond filing returns and actually saves money.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!

What you get

Tax planning that runs throughout the year

Three areas of tax planning that Torbay businesses typically need — covered as part of a fixed monthly package, not charged separately every time a question comes up.

01

Corporation Tax and Dividend Strategy

Your salary and dividend mix is reviewed against your actual position, not left on default settings. Corporation Tax is estimated early in the year so you know what is coming and can plan around it. Decisions made with full visibility of the numbers are, reliably, better decisions.

Included in package
02

Allowances, Reliefs and R&D Claims

Allowable expenses, capital allowances, pension contribution timing and R&D tax credits are all reviewed proactively — not mentioned as an afterthought after accounts are filed. If something applies to your business, you will know about it before the relevant deadline, not after.

Proactive, not reactive
03

Self Assessment and Personal Tax

For directors and self-employed professionals, personal tax does not sit in isolation from the business. Your Self Assessment is prepared with the full picture in view — employment income, dividends, rental income, capital gains — so the liability is accurate and the planning is joined up.

Fast Turnaround With No Corners Cut

“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.”

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference on tax planning

Any accountant can file a return. Fewer will spot the planning opportunity before the deadline passes and explain it clearly enough to act on.

🎯

20 Years Across Diverse Industries

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — sectors with very different tax profiles, allowable cost structures and planning considerations. That breadth means he recognises what applies to your business, not just the textbook answer. You get experience earned across real businesses, not a single narrow specialism.

📅

Planning That Happens Before Deadlines

Tax planning only has value if it happens at the right point in the year. DG Accountancy reviews your position throughout the engagement, not as a rushed conversation in January. Opportunities flagged in April or September are worth more than the same information delivered in December.

💬

Plain English on Every Decision

Tax legislation is dense by design. What you need is someone who can translate the relevant parts into a clear recommendation — what to do, why, by when, and what it saves. That is the standard every client communication is held to here.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is straightforward and requires very little from you at the start.

1

Book a discovery call

A free, no-obligation conversation about your business, your current tax position, and what you are trying to achieve. No sales pitch — just an honest assessment of whether this is the right fit and what the priorities are.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront — no hourly billing, no invoice arriving after every call.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds connected, and any catch-up work scoped. Most clients are fully live within a week. The heavy lifting is handled on this side.

4

Ongoing planning and support

Your compliance runs on time without chasing, your tax position is reviewed throughout the year, and questions get answered the day they are asked. Which is, frankly, what having an accountant should feel like.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

What does proactive tax planning actually involve — is it just filing my return on time?+

Filing on time is the baseline, not the service. Tax planning involves reviewing your salary and dividend mix, identifying allowable expenses and capital allowances, timing pension contributions, assessing whether your business structure remains appropriate, and flagging reliefs like R&D credits if they apply. The goal is that your tax bill is known, understood, and as low as it can legally be — not a figure you learn about after the fact.

What does tax planning support cost and what is included?+

Tax planning is included within the fixed monthly packages rather than charged separately per conversation or per review. Limited company packages start from £79 per month, with the first three months at 50% off. Your quote is written, agreed upfront, and does not change based on how many questions you ask. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoices.

My books are behind and I am not sure what my current tax position is — can you still help?+

Yes, and this is a fairly common starting point. The first step is a catch-up to bring the records current, which gives a clear picture of the actual position. From there, planning conversations become meaningful rather than speculative. The cost of any catch-up work is quoted upfront before anything is agreed.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

There is no long-term contract. Services run on a rolling monthly basis and you can leave with a month’s notice. If the relationship is not working for whatever reason, you leave with your records in order and nothing owed beyond the current month.

Can you advise on Capital Gains Tax if I sell a business asset or property?+

Yes. CGT planning — including Business Asset Disposal Relief, timing of disposals, and the interaction with your other income in the tax year — is part of the advisory work. If a disposal is on the horizon, the earlier the conversation happens the more options are available. A CGT liability confirmed after completion is considerably harder to manage than one planned for in advance.

How far ahead can you give me visibility of what I will owe to HMRC?+

On the Grow and Scale packages, quarterly management accounts and tax reviews mean your estimated liability is updated regularly throughout the year. Even on the entry-level packages, a Corporation Tax estimate is prepared well before the year-end so the number is not a surprise. The aim is that you always know roughly where you stand, with enough time to do something about it if the figure needs adjusting.
