Tax Planning Devon

Fixed monthly fees, ACCA-qualified, and questions answered the day you ask them.
- Your tax position reviewed well before each deadline
- Allowances and reliefs identified before the year closes
- Salary and dividend structure reviewed for tax efficiency

Sound familiar?
Still guessing what your tax bill will be?
For most Devon business owners, tax planning means waiting until January and hoping the number is manageable. It rarely is — because by the time the figure lands, the tax year is already closed and the options are gone. Paying more than necessary is not inevitable. It is usually just a consequence of nobody looking at the numbers early enough.
- Tax bill arrives with no warning and no room to plan
- Salary and dividends set arbitrarily, not structured for efficiency
- Allowances and reliefs missed because nobody flagged them in time
What proactive tax planning looks like
The difference is timing. When your numbers are reviewed throughout the year, there is almost always something to act on. Reliefs to claim, structures to adjust, timing decisions that cost nothing to make and save money that would otherwise go straight to HMRC.
- Tax position reviewed in advance so no bill arrives as a surprise
- Salary and dividend structure set to keep your overall tax low
- Allowances, reliefs and deductions identified before the year end closes
- Fixed monthly fee — no hourly clock running when you ask a question
What Devon clients say about tax advice
Two reviews that reflect what tax planning with DG Accountancy actually looks like in practice — specific, timely and worth the call.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.
Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!
What tax planning with DG Accountancy covers
Three core elements, delivered throughout the year rather than in a January panic. Each one designed to keep more money in your business.
Year-Round Tax Review
Your tax position is assessed before each year end, not after. That means salary, dividends, pension contributions and timing decisions are considered while there is still time to act on them. Nothing is left to chance when the year closes.
Included in all packagesAllowances and Relief Planning
R&D credits, capital allowances, business expenses, annual investment allowances — these are identified as part of your ongoing service, not as a retrospective exercise. Devon businesses regularly miss reliefs simply because no one was watching.
Proactive, not reactiveDirector Pay Structure Review
For limited company directors, the split between salary and dividends is one of the most straightforward tax levers available. It is also one of the most commonly set-and-forgotten. An annual review ensures your structure reflects current rates and thresholds.
For limited company directorsConsistent results across different clients
Sole traders, directors, self-employed professionals — the feedback tends to land on the same themes: clarity, speed and no unpleasant surprises.
Fast Turnaround, Transparent Fees, No Corners Cut
“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.”
Professional Service, Never Have To Worry
“Professional service. This company does my accounts every year and i never have to worry about it. Speedy as well. I am a very happy customer.”
Quick, Efficient And Friendly Throughout
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
What makes the difference on tax
Three things that matter when you are choosing someone to handle your tax planning — and how DG Accountancy measures up on each.
Tax advice grounded in real industries
Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — sectors with very different tax profiles, cost structures and relief eligibility. That breadth means he recognises opportunities specific to your industry, not just the standard checklist. You will not need to explain how your business works before getting a useful answer.
Advice before the year end closes
Most accountants review your tax position after the year is done, when the options are already gone. Tax planning at DG Accountancy happens throughout the year, with reviews timed to when action is still possible. The difference between January advice and October advice is often measurable in hundreds of pounds.
No jargon, no cryptic emails
Tax legislation is complex. Your accountant’s explanation of it does not have to be. Daniel translates your obligations and options into plain English so you can make an informed decision, not just nod along and hope for the best. Every recommendation comes with a clear reason and a clear number.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most clients are fully set up within a week. The process is designed so you do as little as possible while we do the rest.
Book a free discovery call
A conversation about your business, your current set-up, and what you actually want from a tax planning perspective. No sales pitch — just an honest assessment of whether we are a good fit and what we can realistically do for you.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
A written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront, so you know what you are paying before anything starts. No hourly rates sitting in the background.
Onboarding and Xero setup
We connect your accounts, set up or tidy your Xero, and gather what we need. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. You do not need to do much beyond sharing access — we handle the setup.
Ongoing planning and peace of mind
From here, your tax position is reviewed throughout the year. Reliefs flagged. Structures reviewed. Deadlines handled. You stay informed without having to chase, and your tax bill is rarely a surprise — which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Absolutely recommend Daniel for all and any accounts related matter. Would use his expertise again. He is the most amazing person, very professional, explaining every detail meticulously in order to finalise our accounts. A huge thank you Daniel.”
A few things people usually ask first
Can you actually reduce my tax bill, or is this just compliance with a different name?
Tax planning is about timing and structure — making sure allowances are claimed, income is drawn in the most efficient way, and decisions are made before the year end rather than after it. There is rarely a dramatic saving on offer, but for most Devon limited company directors and sole traders, a structured review finds something worth acting on. The specifics depend on your income, structure and sector.
What does tax planning cost and is it included in my monthly fee?
For clients on the Operate, Grow and Scale packages, an annual tax review is included as standard. More frequent reviews and proactive mid-year planning come in at the Grow and Scale tiers. All fees are fixed and agreed upfront — there is no hourly rate running in the background when you ask a question. A full quote is provided before anything starts.
My books are behind and I’m not sure what I’ve claimed — can you still help?
Yes, and it is more common than you might think. A catch-up bookkeeping exercise brings your records current, which is the foundation for any meaningful tax review. We will be honest about the cost of getting things straight before quoting for ongoing work. Most clients are surprised at how quickly it resolves.
Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?
There is no long-term tie-in. Clients stay because the service works, not because they are locked in. If you decide it is not the right fit, you leave with your records in order and nothing outstanding. We think that is how it should be.
I’m a contractor — does IR35 affect my tax planning options?
IR35 status has a direct bearing on how you draw income and what reliefs are available, so it is always considered as part of any planning conversation for contractors. Working outside IR35 through a limited company opens different options compared to being caught inside. We assess your position and plan around your actual status, not an assumed one.
How far ahead will I know what my tax bill is going to be?
On the Grow and Scale packages, you receive quarterly management accounts and regular tax visibility, so you are never more than a quarter away from a current picture. Even on entry-level packages, an annual review is timed to give you the figures well before the payment deadline — enough time to plan for the amount rather than scramble for it.
Stop finding out your tax bill after the fact.
A free discovery call takes twenty minutes. You will leave knowing what your tax position looks like, what can be improved, and exactly what it costs to get it handled properly.
