Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books on a Sunday evening?

Most self-employed people manage their accounts themselves — until the hours lost, the missed expenses and the January panic make that feel like a bad trade. It is not a knowledge problem. It is simply not a good use of your time, and the cost of getting it wrong quietly adds up.

  • ✕ Self Assessment deadline looming with no idea what you owe
  • ✕ Expenses going unclaimed because the records are incomplete
  • ✕ No clear picture of whether VAT registration is approaching

What sorted looks like

Your accounts run in the background. Tax is visible well in advance. The admin that was eating your evenings is handled, and you work directly with Daniel — not a junior passed the file.

  • ✓ Tax bill calculated and communicated months before it is due
  • ✓ Allowable expenses reviewed and captured so nothing is left behind
  • ✓ VAT threshold monitored — no surprises on registration obligations
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no unexpected bills

What sole traders say about DG Accountancy

These are the experiences of self-employed clients who came in with books in varying states and left with considerably less to worry about.

★★★★★

I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for sole traders

There is no shortage of accountants who will file your Self Assessment. Fewer will flag the things you did not think to ask about.

🎯

Twenty years across real businesses

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — industries with very different cost structures, cash flow patterns and tax considerations. That breadth means he already understands the way most self-employed trades work before you explain it. You get experienced advice, not a textbook answer.

Questions answered the same day

Waiting three days for a reply to a simple question is a genuine cost when you are running a business on your own. DG Accountancy is known for fast, clear responses. You ask, you get an answer — not an acknowledgement that your query has been logged.

💬

Plain English, not accounting jargon

Your accounts should tell you something useful — not generate more confusion than they resolve. Daniel explains what your numbers mean, what your options are, and what HMRC expects, in language that actually makes sense. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most sole traders are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to be low-effort on your side from the beginning.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current set-up, and what you actually need. No sales pitch — just an honest discussion about whether this is the right fit. You will leave knowing exactly what happens next.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A clear, written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront before anything is signed. No hourly rates, no ambiguity about what is included.

3

Xero onboarded, books connected

Your Xero account is set up — or tidied up if one exists already — and bank feeds are connected. Most of the setup happens without needing much from you. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week.

4

Compliance handled, advice on tap

Your Self Assessment is filed on time, your books are current every month, and your tax position is visible well in advance. When questions come up, they get answered the same day. The accounts are no longer your problem to carry.

Questions

Common questions from sole traders

Do you handle sole trader accounts for any type of self-employed work, or only certain trades?+

Self-employed clients across a wide range of industries are looked after — from tradespeople and freelancers to consultants, healthcare professionals, hospitality operators and property investors. The specifics of your trade matter when it comes to allowable expenses and tax treatment, and that context informs the advice rather than being glossed over.

What does a sole trader package cost and what does it include?+

Sole trader packages start from £41 per month, with a 50% discount for the first three months. Both tiers include HMRC registration, Self Assessment, Making Tax Digital compliance, unlimited invoices and a dedicated accountant. VAT filing is included in the higher tier and available as an add-on in the lower one. Everything is agreed in writing before you start — no hourly rates, no surprise invoices.

My books are behind and my records are a mess — can you still help?+

Yes, and it is a more common starting point than most people admit. Catch-up bookkeeping is handled as part of onboarding. The extent of the work needed affects the initial cost, which is discussed honestly before anything is agreed. Once it is sorted, it stays sorted — monthly bookkeeping prevents the same situation recurring.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

There is no long-term contract. Packages run monthly and you can leave with reasonable notice. If it is not working after the first three months, you leave with clean, current books and nothing further owed. The intention is to earn the relationship, not lock it in.

Do I need to worry about Making Tax Digital for Income Tax as a sole trader?+

MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment is being phased in for sole traders with qualifying income — currently from April 2026 for those earning above £50,000, with lower thresholds following. Both packages are MTD-compliant from the outset, so if and when the rules apply to you, the transition requires nothing extra on your part. The position is monitored and you will be told in advance what changes.

Can you tell me in advance what my tax bill is likely to be?+

Yes — and doing so is part of the service rather than an optional extra. With current bookkeeping and a Self Assessment prepared properly, your liability can be estimated well ahead of the payment deadline. Knowing the figure in October rather than January gives you time to set aside the right amount, or explore whether there are legitimate ways to reduce it.
