Still piecing together what CIS owes you?
For contractors and subcontractors working across Devon, CIS is one of those areas that never quite sorts itself out. Deductions come off every payment, deadlines arrive each month regardless of how busy the site is, and most subcontractors have no clear idea how much overpaid tax is sitting with HMRC waiting to be reclaimed.
- CIS deductions reducing your take-home with no clear running total
- Monthly returns missed or filed late because there is no system
- Overpaid CIS tax sitting unclaimed with HMRC for months or years
What under control looks like
With the right accountant handling your CIS, the deductions are tracked, the returns go in on time, and any overpayment gets identified and recovered. The compliance runs in the background. You focus on the work.
- Deductions tracked monthly so you always know what you can reclaim
- Monthly CIS returns submitted on time, penalties avoided as a matter of routine
- Overpaid CIS identified, claimed back and offset or refunded promptly
- Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills at year-end
What construction and trades clients say
Clients working in construction and as self-employed tradespeople consistently mention the same things: clarity on tax, less admin, and an accountant who already understands how the work runs.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.
Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!
CIS compliance, handled end to end
From monthly submissions through to deduction recovery, the CIS workload is handled accurately and consistently so it stops taking up your time.
Monthly CIS Return Filing
Your monthly CIS returns are prepared and submitted to HMRC on time each month. Subcontractor details, deduction amounts and payment records are all managed, so there are no late filing penalties and no scramble at the end of the month.
Included as standardCIS Deduction Reclaim
If you are a subcontractor, deductions taken at source can often be reclaimed in full or offset against your tax liability. Your deductions are tracked throughout the year and the reclaim is handled as part of your Self Assessment or corporation tax return.
Included as standardPayroll and PAYE for CIS Contractors
If you take on subcontractors directly, your CIS contractor obligations run alongside payroll and PAYE. Both are managed together so the two do not get out of step. RTI submissions, subcontractor verification and monthly returns are coordinated from one place.

From time-sensitive deadlines to annual accounts filed without fuss, the same themes come up repeatedly: fast turnaround, clear communication, and a fee that represents genuine value.
Turned Everything Around Fast, No Corners Cut
“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.”
Every Detail Explained Meticulously To Finalise Accounts
“Absolutely recommend Daniel for all and any accounts related matter. Would use his expertise again. He is the most amazing person, very professional, explaining every detail meticulously in order to finalise our accounts. A huge thank you Daniel.”
Accounts Done Every Year Without Worrying
“Professional service. This company does my accounts every year and i never have to worry about it. Speedy as well. I am a very happy customer.”
What makes this different from any other accountant
Three things that matter when you are choosing who handles your CIS compliance.
Construction Sector Experience
Daniel has worked in construction finance, so CIS deductions, contractor obligations and subcontractor verification are familiar ground before you say a word. You will not need to spend the first conversation explaining how the scheme works. That background means the advice you get is grounded in how construction businesses actually operate.
Answers the Day You Ask
CIS questions do not always arrive at a convenient time. A subcontractor asks about their deductions, a contractor needs to verify a new worker quickly — those questions get answered promptly. DG Accountancy is known for same-day replies, which matters considerably more than it sounds when a deadline is approaching.
No Penalties From Missed Returns
Monthly CIS returns carry automatic penalties for late submission. With a proper system in place, that risk largely disappears. Returns are prepared, reviewed and submitted on schedule every month, and you receive confirmation when they are done. Which is, frankly, how it should have been running all along.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most CIS clients are fully set up within a week. The process is designed to require as little from you as possible at the outset.
Book a free discovery call
A short call to talk through your CIS situation — whether you are a subcontractor, a contractor, or both. No sales pitch. Just an honest conversation about what you need and whether DG Accountancy is the right fit.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
You will get a clear, written quote covering your CIS returns and any connected services. Everything is agreed upfront. The monthly fee does not change without a conversation, so there are no surprises at year-end.
Onboarding and records setup
Your Xero account is set up, your CIS records are organised, and any catch-up work is scoped and priced separately if needed. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and do very little of this themselves.
CIS compliance runs itself
Your monthly returns go in on time, your deductions are tracked, and your overpayments are flagged for reclaim. You get on with the work. The compliance runs in the background, and you hear from Daniel when something needs your attention — not when it has already become a problem.
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
Things people usually ask about CIS
Do you handle both contractor and subcontractor CIS obligations?
Yes. If you are a subcontractor, the focus is on tracking deductions taken at source and reclaiming any overpaid tax through your Self Assessment or corporation tax return. If you are a contractor, the focus shifts to monthly CIS returns, subcontractor verification and ensuring deductions are applied at the correct rate. Many clients have obligations on both sides, and those are managed together.
What does CIS returns support cost, and what is included?
CIS return filing is included within the monthly fixed-fee packages for limited companies and sole traders, or available as a standalone service depending on your situation. The fee is agreed upfront in writing before any work begins. There are no hourly rates, no surprise invoices, and the quote covers everything discussed.
My CIS records are in a mess. Can you still help?
This is not an unusual situation. Catch-up work — where records need to be reconstructed, deductions reconciled or missed returns dealt with — is scoped and priced as a one-off before starting, so you know the cost going in. Once everything is current, the ongoing monthly service keeps it that way. Arriving with records in some state of disarray is fairly common.
Is there a long-term contract, and what happens if I want to leave?
There is no long-term lock-in. If you decide to leave, your records are handed over cleanly and nothing is owed beyond the current billing period. The aim is to be worth staying with, not to make leaving difficult.
What happens if HMRC queries a CIS return or contacts me directly?
HMRC correspondence relating to CIS submissions is dealt with directly where possible. If HMRC raises a query about a return that has been filed, that is handled as part of the ongoing service. You will not be left to interpret letters or respond to HMRC without support.
Can I reclaim CIS deductions if I operate through a limited company?
Yes. If your limited company receives payments with CIS deductions taken at source, those deductions can be offset against your corporation tax liability or reclaimed if they exceed the tax due. This is factored into your year-end accounts and CT600 return, so the overpaid amount does not simply sit with HMRC unclaimed.
