- Bank reconciliations done — no backlog building in the background
- VAT threshold monitored so registration does not arrive unannounced

Sound familiar?
Running the books yourself, evenings and all?
A lot of Dawlish business owners handle their own bookkeeping because getting started with an accountant feels like another task to organise. Receipts pile up. Reconciliation gets pushed to Sunday evening. By the time VAT is due, the scramble has already started.
- Hours lost on bank reconciliations that should have been billable time
- No confidence your records are MTD-compliant before HMRC takes an interest
- No clear picture of your tax position until the year-end deadline lands
What tidy books actually look like
Hand the bookkeeping to someone who does it daily in Xero and the records stay current, accurate and ready for whatever comes next — a VAT return, a tax review, a mortgage application, or simply knowing where you stand at month end.
- Bank reconciliations done monthly — no Sunday-evening scramble
- MTD-compliant Xero records from day one — HMRC obligations handled
- Tax position visible throughout the year, not just when January arrives
- Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills, no hourly rates
What clients say about working with Daniel
DG Accountancy works with sole traders and limited companies across South Devon. Here is what two of them found after switching.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me.
I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners.

What makes the difference day to day
Three reasons Dawlish business owners switch to DG Accountancy and tend to stay.
No Explaining Your Industry First
Daniel has worked across construction, manufacturing, airlines and entertainment over 20 years. Most business types are familiar territory before the first call. You will not spend an hour explaining how your sector works before getting a useful answer.
Questions Answered the Same Day
DG Accountancy is known for fast replies — not a few days, not a week, the same day you ask. When a VAT question comes up mid-month or a lender needs accounts urgently, the answer arrives while it is still useful.
Everything Online, Nothing to Post
All bookkeeping runs through Xero, which means records are accessible whenever you need them, bank feeds connect automatically, and nothing depends on you dropping in paperwork or posting receipts. It works wherever you are in Devon.
Up and running in four steps
Most new clients in the Dawlish area are fully set up within a week of getting in touch. Here is what that process looks like.
Book a free discovery call
A short conversation about your business, your current set-up, and what you need from a bookkeeper. No sales pitch — just an honest look at whether it is a good fit.
Get your fixed-fee quote
You receive a clear written quote based on your business structure and the services required. Everything is agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no ambiguous scope, no surprises later.
Xero set up and connected
Your Xero account is set up — or tidied up if you already have one — bank feeds connected, and everything organised. Most of this is handled for you. Your job is to say yes.
Books current, compliance handled
From here, records are maintained monthly, deadlines are tracked, and you have an accountant to call when questions come up. Less time on the books, more on running your business.
“Professional service. This company does my accounts every year and i never have to worry about it. Speedy as well. I am a very happy customer.”
A few things people usually ask first
Do I need to be based in Dawlish to use your bookkeeping service?
No. DG Accountancy operates entirely online, so your location makes no practical difference. Clients across Devon and the rest of the UK are served the same way — Xero for bookkeeping, video calls for reviews, and secure file sharing for documents. Being based in Torquay, the Dawlish area is familiar ground, but the service works just as well wherever you are.
What does bookkeeping cost and what is included?
Bookkeeping packages start from £41 per month for sole traders and from £79 per month for limited companies, with 50% off for the first three months. The fee covers Xero set-up, monthly bank reconciliation and MTD compliance. VAT filing and payroll can be added or are included depending on which package you choose — everything is agreed in writing before you start.
My books are in a bit of a state — do you handle catch-up bookkeeping?
Yes, and it is one of the more common starting points. The current state of your records is not a problem — it is assessed during onboarding and reflected in your quote so the cost is clear upfront. Most clients are fully up to date within a few weeks of starting.
Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?
No minimum term. If the service is not working after a few months, you leave with clean, up-to-date Xero records and nothing further owed. The aim is to make the service worth staying for, not to make leaving difficult.
Does the bookkeeping service cover Making Tax Digital?
Yes. All bookkeeping is done in Xero, which is HMRC-recognised for MTD for VAT and will meet the requirements for MTD for Income Tax as it is phased in. You will not need to do anything separately to comply — MTD obligations are built into how the books are maintained from the outset.
Will you flag it if my tax bill is tracking higher than expected?
That is part of the ongoing service. Your tax position is visible throughout the year, so if profit is running ahead of forecast or an expense category needs attention, it gets flagged before it becomes a problem. Higher packages include quarterly tax reviews and proactive planning as standard.
Bookkeeping off your plate, starting this week.
Fixed monthly fee. ACCA-qualified accountant. Same-day replies. No contract. Get a quote and be fully set up in Xero within a week of saying yes.
