Sound familiar?
Still catching up on books from three months ago?
Bookkeeping is the task that moves to next week until it is suddenly six months behind. Bank feeds unreconciled, VAT figures guessed, no clear picture of what the business actually made. For most Exeter business owners it is not laziness — it is a time problem. Running the business comes first, and the books come a distant last.
- Bank transactions piling up unreconciled with no time to sort them
- No reliable figure for VAT liability until the deadline is imminent
- Year-end accountancy bill higher than expected because the records need untangling first
What clean books actually look like
Bookkeeping handled monthly means you always know where you stand. VAT figures are ready well before the deadline, year-end is straightforward, and your accountant can spot opportunities rather than spend time reconstructing your records.
- Bank feeds reconciled monthly — records current, nothing piling up
- VAT liability visible in real time, not estimated the night before filing
- Year-end accounts prepared from clean data — no expensive catch-up work
- Fixed monthly fee, agreed upfront — no surprise bills when deadlines arrive
What Exeter clients say about the bookkeeping
These are real words from clients who came with books in some state of disorder and left with considerably less to worry about.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.
I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.
Bookkeeping that keeps pace with your business
Monthly Xero bookkeeping, VAT compliance and proactive support — all on a fixed fee that covers the essentials without hidden extras.
Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping
Your transactions are categorised, reconciled and up to date in Xero every month — not once a year when the accountant asks for them. Bank feeds are connected from the start, so the process is largely automated and your records are always MTD-ready. You can log in at any point and see an accurate picture of the business.
Included as standardVAT Returns and MTD Compliance
Quarterly VAT returns are prepared from your Xero records and filed directly with HMRC through Making Tax Digital-compatible software. Your VAT position is visible throughout the quarter, not assembled in a hurry on the deadline day. If you are approaching the registration threshold, you will know well in advance.
Included or available as add-onYear-End Accounts and Tax
Clean monthly bookkeeping means year-end is straightforward rather than expensive. Statutory accounts, Corporation Tax returns and Self Assessment are all prepared from records that are already in order. There is no untangling fee, and no scramble in January.
Included in most packagesClients across Devon and the UK
From sole traders to limited companies, clients value the speed, transparency and plain-English communication as much as the compliance itself.

Why Exeter businesses work with us
There are plenty of bookkeepers. Here is what makes the difference in practice.
Xero-Based, Fully Online
Everything runs through Xero, connected to your bank feeds and accessible in real time. There are no spreadsheets to email back and forth and no waiting for someone to open the books. Being based in Torquay and serving clients across Devon and the UK remotely means Exeter businesses get the same service as if we were next door.
Replies Come the Same Day
A common frustration with bookkeepers is waiting days for a simple answer. DG Accountancy is known for fast responses — you ask a question and you get an answer the day you ask it. That matters most when a deadline is approaching or a number needs checking before a decision is made.
20 Years Across Real Businesses
Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — which means the bookkeeping comes with context, not just data entry. When something looks unusual in your numbers, it gets flagged. When a more efficient way to structure things exists, you will hear about it.
Up and running in four steps
Most Exeter clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is straightforward and most of the work is done on our side.
Book a free discovery call
A short call to talk through your business, your current bookkeeping set-up, and what you actually need. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about whether we are the right fit.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
You get a clear written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprises further down the line.
Xero onboarding and bank feeds
We set up your Xero account, connect your bank feeds, and gather whatever we need to get started. If your books are behind, we handle the catch-up. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week.
Books current, compliance handled
From that point, your records are kept current every month, your VAT is filed on time, and you have an accountant to call when questions come up. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Fantastic service provided. Thank you.”
Things Exeter clients usually ask first
Do you actually understand how bookkeeping works for small Exeter businesses, or is this a generic service?
The service is built around the realities of running a small business — variable income, mixed expenses, VAT thresholds to watch and deadlines that arrive faster than expected. Daniel has worked across multiple sectors for two decades, so the bookkeeping is informed by how businesses actually operate rather than how a textbook says they should.
What does bookkeeping cost, and what is included?
Pricing is a fixed monthly fee tailored to your business structure, turnover and the services you need. Sole trader packages start from £41 per month; limited company packages from £79 per month, with 50% off the first three months. Everything is agreed in writing upfront — there are no hourly rates or unexpected add-ons for routine work.
My books are a mess — can you still help, or do I need to sort them out first?
Catch-up bookkeeping is a normal part of onboarding. Most clients arrive with records that are weeks or months behind, and we work through them systematically in Xero. A catch-up fee may apply depending on how far behind things are, which will be included transparently in your quote.
Am I tied into a long contract?
There is no long-term contract. If the arrangement is not working after three months, you can leave with clean, up-to-date books and nothing further owed. The aim is to make the service good enough that leaving does not cross your mind — not to make it contractually difficult.
Do I need to install anything or be technically confident to use Xero?
Xero is browser-based and straightforward to navigate. We handle the full setup, connect your bank feeds and walk you through anything you need to know. Most clients use Xero primarily to check their figures — the bookkeeping itself is done on our side.
Will I know what my tax bill is going to be before HMRC writes to me?
With monthly bookkeeping and up-to-date Xero records, your tax position is visible throughout the year rather than estimated at year-end. Corporation Tax liabilities and Self Assessment figures can be discussed well in advance of filing deadlines, giving you time to plan rather than react.
Leave the books to someone else. Focus on Exeter.
Fixed monthly bookkeeping in Xero, VAT compliance handled, and an ACCA-qualified accountant who replies the day you ask. Clear pricing from the first conversation.
