Sound familiar?

Books piling up faster than you can face them?

Most Chelston business owners did not start a business to spend evenings categorising transactions. The books get pushed back, the records drift out of date, and by the time year-end arrives, nobody quite knows where things stand. Making Tax Digital has added another layer — and it is not getting simpler.

  • Months of transactions sitting unreconciled in a bank feed
  • No clear picture of what VAT is owed until it is urgent
  • Year-end becoming a scramble through a year of disorganised records

What sorted looks like

Bookkeeping handled monthly in Xero means your records are always current, your VAT position is visible, and year-end is no longer an event to dread. You get a clear picture of your numbers whenever you need one.

  • Transactions reconciled every month — nothing left to accumulate
  • VAT position visible in real time, no last-minute arithmetic
  • Year-end accounts prepared from clean, current records
  • One fixed monthly fee — no surprises, no hourly clock

What Chelston clients say about their books

Business owners across Torquay use DG Accountancy for monthly bookkeeping that actually stays on top of itself. Here is what two of them found.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Stressful Deadline Handled Quickly and Accurately

“I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference in practice

Plenty of bookkeepers can process transactions. Fewer will explain what the numbers mean, flag a problem before it lands, and still reply the same day.

📒

Xero, set up properly

DG Accountancy is a Xero Bronze Partner. Bank feeds connected, chart of accounts set up for your business type, and everything reconciled each month rather than left to accumulate. Cloud-based means you can see your figures whenever you need them — not when the accountant remembers to send a spreadsheet.

Questions answered the day you ask

A common complaint about bookkeepers is that they are impossible to reach once signed up. Daniel replies quickly and keeps you in the loop — whether you have a VAT question, an expense query or a bank transaction you cannot identify. Waiting days for a simple answer wastes time and creates unnecessary stress.

🎯

Twenty years across diverse industries

Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment before founding DG Accountancy. That breadth means he has seen most business structures and income patterns before, and rarely needs a situation explained twice. You get seasoned judgement applied to your bookkeeping, not a junior working through a checklist.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most new clients are fully onboarded within a week. Here is the sequence from first conversation to books running on autopilot.

1

Book a discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current records, and what you need from a bookkeeper. No sales pitch — just an honest assessment of whether we are the right fit and what the work involves.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A clear, written quote based on your business structure, transaction volume and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront — the fee on your quote is the fee you pay, month after month.

3

Xero setup and onboarding

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds connected, and any catch-up work scoped. If your records are in some state of disarray, that is not unusual — it is handled as part of onboarding, not a reason to delay.

4

Books running on autopilot

Monthly bookkeeping runs in the background, VAT returns go out on time, and you have an accountant who replies promptly when something comes up. Considerably less to think about, which is the whole point.

Questions

Things people usually ask before starting

I run a small business in Chelston — is cloud bookkeeping actually suitable for me?+

Xero works well for businesses of almost any size, from sole traders with a handful of monthly transactions to limited companies with payroll, VAT and multiple income streams. The setup is scaled to what you actually need. If your transaction volume is low, the monthly fee reflects that — you are not paying for a system built for a business ten times your size.

What does bookkeeping cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is a fixed monthly fee based on your business structure and transaction volume — agreed in writing before anything starts. For sole traders, packages begin from £41 per month. Limited company packages start from £79 per month. VAT filing, payroll and Self Assessment can be included or added on depending on the package. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoices.

My books are a mess — can you still help?+

Most new clients arrive with records in some state of disarray. Catch-up bookkeeping is common and is handled as a defined piece of work with a clear cost, scoped before it starts. Once the backlog is cleared, the monthly service picks up from there. The state of your current records is not a reason to delay getting started.

Is there a long-term contract?+

No. DG Accountancy operates on a rolling monthly basis. If the service is not working for you after three months, you can leave with your records clean and exported, and nothing further owed. The absence of a lock-in is intentional — it keeps the quality of service where it should be.

Do I need to do anything once bookkeeping is set up?+

Very little. Bank feeds pull transactions into Xero automatically. You will occasionally be asked to confirm a category for an unusual transaction or provide a receipt for a specific expense. Beyond that, the monthly reconciliation runs without needing your time. The goal is that bookkeeping disappears from your to-do list almost entirely.

Will I be able to see my numbers whenever I want?+

Yes. Because the books are kept current in Xero on a monthly basis, your profit and loss, bank balances and VAT position are visible at any point through the Xero app or desktop. You do not need to wait for a quarterly report or ask the accountant to run a figure — it is there when you need it.
