Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books after a long day?

It is not that bookkeeping is difficult. It is that it takes time you do not have, and the moment you fall behind, catching up feels worse than staying wrong. Many Teignmouth business owners reach the end of a quarter with records that are more approximate than accurate — and an uncomfortable sense that the tax bill will be larger than expected.

  • ✕ Reconciling bank transactions in the evening instead of switching off
  • ✕ No clear picture of what you owe HMRC until it is almost too late
  • ✕ Unsure whether your records are MTD-compliant or missing something important

What sorted looks like

Your books are kept current in Xero every month. Your tax position is visible without you having to ask. And when something changes — a VAT threshold, a payroll obligation, a filing deadline — you hear about it before it becomes a problem.

  • ✓ Monthly bookkeeping in Xero means your records are always current
  • ✓ Tax liability calculated and communicated well ahead of any deadline
  • ✓ MTD compliance built in from day one, no retrofitting required
  • ✓ One fixed monthly fee, agreed upfront, nothing billed by the hour

What clients say about the bookkeeping

From sole traders getting on top of their records for the first time to limited company directors wanting cleaner monthly figures — this is what working with DG Accountancy looks like.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.

What you get

Everything your books actually need

Cloud bookkeeping is the foundation, but most Teignmouth clients need a little more than that. Here is what is covered as standard — and what can be added as your business grows.

01

Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping

Your transactions are categorised, reconciled and up to date in Xero every month. Bank feeds are connected so nothing sits unreconciled, and your records are always ready for a VAT return or year-end without a scramble. MTD compliance is built in from the start.

Included as standard
02

VAT Returns and MTD Filing

Quarterly VAT returns are prepared from your live Xero data and submitted to HMRC on time. Your VAT position is reviewed before each submission so there are no surprises in the payment. Registration, scheme advice and threshold monitoring are all included.

Included from Operate upwards
03

Year-End Accounts and Tax

Statutory accounts, your Corporation Tax return or Self Assessment, and any Companies House filings are handled as part of your package. Because the bookkeeping is current throughout the year, year-end becomes a formality rather than a fortnight of panic.

Why DG Accountancy

What makes this different from most bookkeepers

There are plenty of bookkeeping services. Fewer that combine cross-sector expertise, same-day responsiveness and transparent fixed pricing under one ACCA-qualified accountant.

🎯

Cross-sector experience behind the books

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment over 20 years. That breadth means he recognises the patterns in your numbers that a less experienced bookkeeper would miss. You get someone who already understands how your type of business earns and spends before you explain it.

Questions answered the same day

Most bookkeeping frustrations are not about the work itself — they are about waiting. Waiting for a reply to a simple query. Waiting to find out what the VAT bill is. DG Accountancy is built around responsiveness, which means you are not left chasing.

☁️

Xero-based, accessible in real time

Your books live in Xero, not in a spreadsheet on someone else’s laptop. Bank feeds are connected, data is current, and you can log in at any point to see where you stand. No waiting for the accountant to open the books — they are already open.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to take as little of your time as possible.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current setup, and what you actually need from a bookkeeper. No pitch. You will leave knowing whether this is the right fit and roughly what it would cost.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A written quote, tailored to your business structure and services. Everything is agreed upfront — there are no hourly rates, no add-ons that appear later, and no vague estimates.

3

Xero set up and connected

Your Xero account is set up (or tidied up, if you already have one), bank feeds are connected, and everything is configured correctly. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week with minimal input required from their side.

4

Books current, tax visible

From that point, your bookkeeping runs every month without you having to think about it. Your tax position is clear, deadlines are met, and any changes that affect your business are flagged before they become a problem. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

I run a small business in Teignmouth — do I actually need a bookkeeper, or is a spreadsheet enough?+

A spreadsheet is enough until it is not. The problems usually arrive at VAT registration, at year-end when your accountant has to reconstruct twelve months of transactions, or when HMRC asks a question and the records do not support the answer. Cloud bookkeeping in Xero costs less per month than most people expect, keeps your records compliant with Making Tax Digital, and means the data is already there when you need it.

What does bookkeeping actually cost, and what is included in the fee?+

Sole trader packages start from £41 per month, with a 50% discount for the first three months. Limited company packages start from £79 per month on the same introductory terms. Every quote is tailored to your turnover and complexity and agreed in writing before anything starts. Xero is set up as part of the service — you are not paying for it separately on top.

My books are a bit of a mess. Can you still help, or do I need to tidy them up first?+

Messy books are one of the most common starting points — you do not need to sort them out before getting in touch. A catch-up exercise is quoted separately and transparently, so you know what it costs before any work begins. Most clients are in considerably better shape within a few weeks of starting, and the ongoing monthly service then keeps them that way.

Is there a long-term contract, and what happens if I want to leave?+

There is no long-term contract. Services run on a rolling monthly basis and you can leave with reasonable notice at any point. If you do leave, your Xero data remains yours and your records will be current and properly filed up to the point of departure. Nothing is held back.

Do I need to be based in Teignmouth, or can you work with clients remotely?+

DG Accountancy operates entirely online. All bookkeeping is done through Xero, communication happens by phone and email, and onboarding takes place via video call and secure file sharing. Most clients across Devon and the wider UK have never needed to meet in person. Location makes no practical difference to the quality or speed of the service.

Will I be able to see what my tax bill is likely to be before HMRC asks for it?+

Yes. Because the bookkeeping is kept current every month, your tax position is visible as an ongoing figure rather than a number that materialises at year-end. For limited company clients on higher-tier packages, this is reviewed formally each quarter. For sole traders, the Self Assessment position is estimated and communicated well before the January deadline.
