Sound familiar?
Behind on the books again this month?
Bookkeeping is one of those things that feels manageable until it suddenly is not. A few missed weeks become a missed quarter, and by the time year-end arrives, you are reconstructing transactions from memory and bank statements. That is not a great position for a VAT return — and it is an even worse one for a tax bill you were not expecting.
- Months of unreconciled transactions piling up in a drawer
- No clear picture of what the business actually owes in tax
- Cobbling together records at year-end instead of reviewing them
What up-to-date books look like
When bookkeeping runs monthly, none of those problems have time to build. Your records are current, your VAT position is visible, and year-end is a review rather than a rescue operation.
- Transactions reconciled monthly in Xero — nothing left to pile up
- Your tax position visible throughout the year, not just in January
- Year-end accounts prepared from clean records, not constructed from chaos
- Fixed monthly fee — you know the cost before the work begins
What Torquay clients say about the books
Both reviews below came from clients who needed their bookkeeping and financial records handled accurately and quickly — and said exactly what changed when they did.
Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.
I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.
What the bookkeeping fee covers
Monthly bookkeeping is not just data entry. Done properly, it gives you a clear financial picture, keeps HMRC happy, and removes the single biggest source of year-end panic.
Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping in Xero
Every transaction categorised, every bank feed reconciled, every month. Your Xero account stays current so you always know where the business stands — and so does your accountant. Catch-up bookkeeping is also available if the records need tidying before going live.
Included as standardVAT Returns and MTD Compliance
Quarterly VAT returns prepared from your up-to-date books and filed on time, every time. Your turnover is monitored against the VAT threshold so registration obligations are never a surprise. Making Tax Digital compliance is handled from day one.
Included or available as add-onYear-End Accounts and Corporation Tax
When your bookkeeping is current throughout the year, the year-end process is straightforward rather than stressful. Statutory accounts, CT600 returns and Companies House filings are all prepared from records that are already in good order.
Included in all packagesConsistently five stars across every service
These are three separate clients, different businesses, different needs — all saying the same thing about what it is like to work with Daniel.
Absolutely Recommend For All Accounts Matters
“Absolutely recommend Daniel for all and any accounts related matter. Would use his expertise again. He is the most amazing person, very professional, explaining every detail meticulously in order to finalise our accounts. A huge thank you Daniel.”
Made Self-Employment Tax Manageable Again
“Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!”
Patient, Clear, Made Everything Make Sense
“Daniel was very helpful and patient with me when I had no clue what to do and spoke through everything with me and made it clear, couldn’t recommend him enough, thank you again.”
What makes this different from other bookkeepers
There is no shortage of bookkeeping services in Torquay. Here is what actually separates this one from the rest.
20 Years Across Real Businesses
Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — which means he understands how different businesses actually operate, not just how their accounts should theoretically look. You will not spend twenty minutes explaining your industry before getting a useful answer. The context is already there.
Questions Answered the Same Day
Most bookkeeping frustrations are not about the numbers — they are about not knowing what the numbers mean or not being able to get a straight answer. DG Accountancy is known for fast, clear replies. You ask a question on a Tuesday morning, you have an answer before lunch.
Xero-Powered, Always Accessible
Everything runs through Xero, with bank feeds connected and records updated monthly. You can log in at any point and see your financial position without waiting for your accountant to send a spreadsheet. No shoeboxes. No catching up at year-end. Just current, accurate books.
Up and running in four steps
Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is straightforward by design — because a complicated onboarding is not a good sign for what comes next.
Book a free discovery call
A short conversation about your business, your current records, and what you actually need from a bookkeeper. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about whether it is a good fit. You will leave the call knowing exactly what happens next.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
A clear, written quote tailored to your business structure and the services required. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprise invoices three months in. If catch-up work is needed, that is costed separately and transparently.
Xero setup and onboarding
Your Xero account is set up — or your existing one tidied up — with bank feeds connected and opening balances confirmed. You provide access to your records and Daniel handles the rest. Most clients are fully live within a week.
Books current, compliance handled
From that point, your bookkeeping runs on a monthly cycle. Records are reconciled, VAT returns are filed on time, and your tax position is visible throughout the year. Year-end becomes a formality rather than a panic. Which is, frankly, how it should be.
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
Things people usually ask first
Do you handle catch-up bookkeeping if my records are behind?
Yes. Most new clients arrive with records that are some months — occasionally considerably more — behind. The catch-up work is scoped and costed separately from the ongoing monthly fee so you know exactly what tidying up the backlog will cost before any work begins. Once the records are current, the monthly service takes over.
What does bookkeeping actually cost and what is included?
Bookkeeping is included within DG Accountancy’s fixed monthly packages, which start from £79 per month for limited companies and £41 per month for sole traders. Everything is agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no surprise bills at the end of a busy month. A free quote tailored to your business takes about ten minutes to put together.
I am currently with another accountant — how complicated is switching?
Switching is straightforward. DG Accountancy handles the professional clearance process with your previous accountant, gathers the records needed, and sets up your Xero account. You do not need to manage the handover yourself. Most clients are fully switched and onboarded within a week of signing up.
Is there a long-term contract I am locked into?
No. There is no minimum term. If the service is not working for you, you give notice and leave with your books in good order and nothing outstanding. The aim is that the quality of the work makes staying an easy decision — not a contractual obligation.
Do I need to use Xero, or can I stay on my current software?
DG Accountancy works in Xero, which is the platform that keeps bookkeeping current, automated and MTD-ready. If you are on different software, migration is handled as part of onboarding. For most clients the switch is straightforward, and the real-time visibility Xero provides is generally considered an improvement on what they had before.
Will I be able to see my tax position during the year, not just at year-end?
Yes. Because the books are kept current throughout the year, your corporation tax or income tax estimate is visible at any point — not something that materialises as a surprise in January. For clients on the Operate tier and above, quarterly reviews provide a clearer picture of where the business stands financially at regular intervals.
Stop running the books yourself. Let us handle it.
Fixed monthly bookkeeping in Xero, VAT returns filed on time, and a clear view of your tax position throughout the year. No contracts. No surprises.
