Bookkeeper in Shiphay

Bookkeeper in Shiphay

Your Shiphay books, clean and current.

Most small business owners in Shiphay are keeping their own records, usually in a spreadsheet that is several weeks behind. DG Accountancy takes bookkeeping off your plate entirely — fixed monthly fee, Xero-based cloud records, and an ACCA-qualified accountant who replies the same day you ask.

  • Books reconciled and current every single month, without chasing you
  • VAT threshold monitored so there are no unexpected registration surprises
  • MTD-compliant records from day one — no scramble when the deadline arrives
  • Know your tax position well before HMRC sends the reminder

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still catching up on last month’s books?

Running a business in Shiphay leaves very little time for reconciling bank statements, categorising expenses and making sure everything is ready for the VAT man. Most business owners mean to keep on top of it. Most find it three months behind by the time they look again. The records that should be helping you make decisions are just creating a nagging sense of dread instead.

  • Bank reconciliation sitting two months behind, growing harder to untangle
  • No clear picture of whether you are VAT-threshold bound or not
  • Tax return time arrives before the year’s records are anywhere near finished

What sorted looks like

Monthly bookkeeping handled in Xero, records reconciled regularly, and your VAT position tracked throughout the year. You always know where you stand, and the year-end is never a surprise.

  • Records reconciled monthly — no pile-up waiting to undo at year-end
  • VAT threshold tracked so you register when required, not after the fact
  • Year-end figures ready well in advance — no last-minute scramble
  • One fixed monthly fee, agreed upfront, with no unexpected hourly bills

What Shiphay clients say about us

From sole traders keeping their first set of books to limited company directors who want proper monthly records — here is what working with DG Accountancy looks like in practice.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!

What you get

Bookkeeping that actually keeps up

Three core components, delivered on a fixed monthly fee — so your records are always current, your compliance is handled, and your tax position is never a mystery.

01

Clean Books Every Month

Your transactions are categorised, reconciled and filed in Xero each month. Bank feeds connect automatically, so the manual data entry is eliminated and the records are always up to date. No backlog. No catch-up panic at year-end.

Included as standard
02

VAT and MTD Compliance

Quarterly VAT returns are prepared from your Xero records and submitted on time. Your turnover is monitored against the registration threshold so you know well in advance if registration is approaching. Making Tax Digital requirements are met from the outset.

Included or available as add-on
03

Year-End and Self Assessment

Because the books are maintained monthly, year-end accounts and your Self Assessment return are prepared without the usual scramble for missing invoices and receipts. Your tax liability is visible before the filing deadline, not after.

Why DG Accountancy

Why Shiphay businesses choose us

There are plenty of bookkeepers. Here is what makes the difference when you are actually working with one.

☁️

Cloud-First From Day One

Everything runs through Xero — bank feeds connected, receipts captured, records current. There are no spreadsheets to chase, no paper to post and no waiting for the books to be opened. You can see the state of your accounts any time you need to.

Questions Answered the Day You Ask

DG Accountancy has a consistent reputation for fast replies. If something comes up mid-month — a supplier query, a VAT question, an unexpected HMRC letter — you will get a clear answer the same day. Not in a week.

🎯

Twenty Years Across Diverse Industries

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment before founding DG Accountancy — which means he already understands the real pressures of running a business, not just the compliance requirements. You are not explaining your situation to someone learning on the job.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most new clients are fully onboarded within a week. Here is how it works, and what you are expected to do at each stage — which is not much.

1

Book a free discovery call

A straightforward conversation about your business, your current bookkeeping setup and what you actually need. No sales pitch. You will know by the end of the call whether we are the right fit.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A written quote tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront — no hidden extras, no hourly rates that grow unexpectedly mid-month.

3

Xero set up and connected

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds connected and opening balances imported. If your books are behind, catch-up work is scoped and priced separately before anything starts.

4

Books handled, business running

From here, your bookkeeping runs in the background. Records are current, deadlines are met, and your tax position is visible whenever you want to check. Considerably less to think about.

Questions

Things Shiphay clients usually ask

Do you work with small local businesses, not just big companies?+

Most clients are sole traders, small limited companies and self-employed professionals — exactly the kind of business operating in and around Shiphay. The bookkeeping service is designed to be proportionate to your size and complexity, not a one-size-fits-all corporate package. You get the same ACCA-qualified accountant whether you are turning over £30,000 or £300,000.

What does bookkeeping cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is a fixed monthly fee agreed upfront and tailored to your business structure. Sole trader packages start from £41 per month and limited company packages from £79 per month. Your quote sets out exactly what is included — no hourly rates, no surprise bills at year-end. The first three months are currently available at 50% off.

My books are a bit of a mess. Can you still help?+

Yes, and it is not unusual. Catch-up bookkeeping is scoped and priced separately before any work begins, so you know what the tidy-up will cost. Once the records are current, the monthly service takes over and keeps them that way. Most clients arrive with books in some state of disarray and leave with considerably less to worry about.

Is there a long-term contract I have to sign?+

No. There is no minimum term beyond the initial three months. If the arrangement is not working, you give notice and leave with your Xero records intact and up to date. Nothing owed beyond what has been agreed and delivered.

Do I need to install any software or come to an office?+

Neither. DG Accountancy is a fully online practice. Xero is cloud-based and accessible from any browser — there is nothing to install. Meetings happen via video call when useful, and documents are shared securely online. Being based in Torquay makes it easy to meet locally if you prefer, but most clients never need to.

Will I be able to see my tax liability before the end of the year?+

That is one of the practical benefits of keeping your books current throughout the year rather than catching up in January. With records reconciled monthly, a reasonable tax estimate is available well before the filing deadline — enough time to set money aside, or adjust if your trading position changes.
