Sound familiar?

Still doing your own books at the weekend?

Most Torquay business owners end up keeping their own records by default — not because they want to, but because finding a bookkeeper who actually responds feels harder than just muddling through. The result is books that are months behind, VAT returns filed in a panic, and a year-end that costs more than it should because the accountant has to untangle everything first.

  • Books months behind and a year-end clean-up bill looming
  • VAT return deadlines caught by surprise every quarter
  • No clear picture of what the business is actually making

What sorted bookkeeping looks like

When the books are current and the records are clean, everything downstream — VAT, Self Assessment, year-end accounts — becomes considerably less painful. Here is what that looks like in practice.

  • Books reconciled monthly — no year-end scramble or catch-up bills
  • VAT deadlines tracked and filed on time, every quarter
  • Monthly snapshot of income, expenses and profit — always to hand
  • Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — you know what you are paying

What Torquay clients say about the bookkeeping

Both quotes below are from clients who came to Daniel with their books in some state of disarray. Neither left disappointed.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

What you get

Everything your bookkeeping needs, covered

Three core elements make up the bookkeeping service — each designed to keep your records clean, your obligations met and your numbers visible without the admin landing back on your desk.

01

Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping in Xero

Your transactions are categorised, reconciled and up to date every month — not just at year-end. Xero is set up and connected to your bank feeds from the start, so the records look after themselves. You always know where the numbers stand.

Included as standard
02

VAT Returns and MTD Compliance

Your quarterly VAT return is prepared from your Xero records and filed on time — no last-minute scramble, no missed deadlines. Making Tax Digital obligations are covered from day one, so you are not caught out when the rules tighten further.

Included or add-on by tier
03

Year-End Ready, Every Year

Because the books are current throughout the year, your year-end accounts and tax return involve considerably less work — and considerably less cost. There is no backlog to clear, no documents to hunt down, and no surprises about what you owe.

Why DG Accountancy

Why Torquay businesses choose us over the alternatives

There is no shortage of bookkeepers. Here is what makes the difference in practice.

🎯

20 Years Across Diverse Industries

Daniel has kept books and managed accounts across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment. That breadth matters because the common bookkeeping problems — misallocated costs, missed expense categories, VAT edge cases — look different in every industry. You get someone who has likely seen your specific situation before.

Questions Answered the Day You Ask

DG Accountancy is consistently reviewed for responsiveness. If something lands in your inbox from HMRC, or you are unsure how to categorise a transaction, you will have an answer the same day — not three days later after chasing. That is not a promise; it is what the reviews say.

☁️

Cloud-Based, No Paperwork Boxes

Everything runs through Xero, connected directly to your bank. There are no spreadsheets to email back and forth, no physical receipts to post, and no waiting for the books to be opened. Your records are visible in real time, from anywhere.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to involve as little effort on your side as possible.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short call to understand your business, your current set-up and what you need from a bookkeeper. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about whether it is the right fit.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a clear, written quote based on your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront. There are no hourly rates and nothing added later without your sign-off.

3

Xero set up and connected

Your Xero account is set up — or tidied up if you already have one — with bank feeds connected and opening balances imported. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and do very little themselves.

4

Books handled, month after month

Your records are reconciled each month, VAT returns filed on time, and you get plain-English answers whenever something comes up. The books are no longer your problem to worry about, which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

Do you actually understand bookkeeping for small Torquay businesses, not just large corporate accounts?+

Yes — the bulk of the client base is sole traders, small limited companies and self-employed professionals. Daniel set up DG Accountancy specifically to serve business owners who need a responsive, experienced bookkeeper without the cost or bureaucracy of a large firm. Whether you run a local trade, a small retail operation or a professional services business, the records are set up to reflect how your business actually works.

What does bookkeeping actually cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is a fixed monthly fee agreed upfront based on your business structure, transaction volume and the services you need. Sole trader bookkeeping packages start from £41 per month, and limited company packages start from £79 per month — both with 50% off for the first three months. Xero is included. There are no hourly rates and nothing added to the bill without prior agreement.

My books are a mess — can you still take me on?+

Yes. Most new clients arrive with records that are somewhere behind. A catch-up exercise is quoted separately and transparently before any work begins, so you know the cost before committing. Once the backlog is cleared, the monthly service keeps everything current going forward. It is a very common starting point.

Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?+

No long-term contract. The service runs on a rolling monthly basis and you can leave with one month’s notice. If the arrangement is not working, you will leave with clean, up-to-date Xero records — which is more than most people started with.

Do I need to already have Xero, or will you set it up?+

Xero is set up as part of the onboarding process at no additional cost. If you already have an account, it gets reviewed and tidied before the monthly bookkeeping begins. Bank feeds are connected directly, so most of the reconciliation work happens automatically. You do not need any accounting knowledge to use it.

Will I be able to see my numbers at any point during the month, or only at year-end?+

Because everything runs through Xero with live bank feeds, your records are visible in real time — not just when the accountant opens the books. Depending on the package, you also receive quarterly or monthly management reports summarising income, expenses and profit in plain English. You will not be guessing what the business is making.
