Sound familiar?

Not sure your books actually meet MTD requirements?

Most business owners know Making Tax Digital exists. Fewer are confident their records, software and submission process genuinely comply with it. The rules have changed, the scope is widening, and what passed two years ago may not be enough today. Spreadsheets that are not bridged, software that is not HMRC-recognised, and quarterly deadlines that creep up quietly — these are the things that tend to surface at the worst moment.

  • Unsure whether your current software is genuinely MTD-compatible with HMRC
  • Quarterly VAT submission deadlines missed or managed in a panic each time
  • No clear plan for MTD for Income Tax as the mandate extends to sole traders

What compliant looks like

MTD compliance is largely a setup problem. Get the right software connected, the records structured correctly, and a process that runs without you chasing it — and it becomes background noise rather than a recurring headache.

  • Xero set up correctly and confirmed MTD-compatible from day one
  • Quarterly submissions managed and filed on time, every quarter
  • MTD for Income Tax assessed and planned ahead of your mandation date
  • Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise charges at filing time

What clients say about working with Daniel

Business owners who switched to DG Accountancy typically arrive uncertain about their compliance position and leave knowing exactly where they stand.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!

What you get

Everything your MTD compliance needs

MTD touches bookkeeping, VAT and increasingly income tax. Each element is included or available as part of a fixed monthly package — no piecemeal billing.

01

Digital Records in Xero

Your books are maintained in Xero — an HMRC-recognised MTD-compatible platform. Bank feeds are connected, transactions are categorised, and your digital records meet the MTD audit trail requirements without you having to think about it. No spreadsheets. No bridging software workarounds.

Included as standard
02

Quarterly VAT Submissions

VAT returns are prepared from your live Xero data and submitted directly to HMRC through the MTD for VAT API. Deadlines are tracked, returns are reviewed for accuracy before submission, and you receive confirmation once filed. You will not be left wondering whether something went in.

Included or available as add-on
03

MTD for Income Tax Readiness

MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment is rolling out in stages — affecting sole traders and landlords from April 2026 onwards depending on income level. Your obligations are assessed, your records structured correctly, and quarterly reporting set up before the mandate applies to you. No last-minute scramble.

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference on MTD

MTD compliance is straightforward when the setup is right and someone is paying attention to deadlines. Here is what that looks like in practice.

☁️

Xero Handles the Hard Part

As a Xero Bronze Partner, DG Accountancy sets up and maintains your digital records in software that connects directly to HMRC. There is no bridging software, no manual exports and no question about whether your records meet the MTD specification. The platform does what it is supposed to do, and Daniel checks that it is.

📅

Deadlines Tracked, Not Chased

Quarterly VAT and income tax submission windows are managed proactively. You will not receive a panicked email a day before the deadline asking for information — the records are current, the return is prepared, and submission happens as a matter of routine. Which is, frankly, the way it should work.

💬

MTD Explained Without the Jargon

HMRC’s MTD documentation is not exactly light reading. Daniel translates what the rules actually mean for your business — which records you need to keep, in what format, by when, and what happens if your circumstances change. You understand your obligations without needing to become an expert in them.

Getting started

MTD-compliant in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded and MTD-ready within a week. The process is designed so that the heavy lifting sits with Daniel, not with you.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your current setup — what software you use, whether you are already VAT-registered, and when MTD for Income Tax applies to you. No sales pitch. Just an honest picture of where you stand and what needs to happen.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A clear, written quote covering everything you need — Xero setup, quarterly submissions, VAT returns and any catch-up work if your records need tidying first. Everything agreed upfront with no hourly rate surprises later.

3

Xero setup and onboarding

Your Xero account is configured to HMRC’s MTD specifications, bank feeds are connected, and any historical records are imported or reconciled. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week and need to do very little themselves.

4

Compliance runs in the background

Quarterly submissions go in on time, your records stay current, and Daniel flags anything that needs your attention before it becomes a problem. MTD becomes something that is simply handled — not something on your to-do list.

Questions

Common questions about MTD compliance

Does MTD for VAT apply to my business, and am I already compliant?+

MTD for VAT has been mandatory for all VAT-registered businesses since April 2022 — not just those above the VAT threshold. If you are VAT-registered and filing returns through software that submits directly to HMRC via the MTD API, you are likely compliant. If you are still filing through your online HMRC account or using a spreadsheet without bridging software, you are not. A quick review of your current setup will confirm which category you fall into.

What does MTD compliance support cost, and what is included?+

MTD support is included within DG Accountancy’s fixed monthly packages for limited companies and sole traders. Sole trader packages start from £41 per month, limited company packages from £79 per month, with VAT filing included from the Operate tier upward. All pricing is agreed in writing upfront — no hourly rates, no surprise bills at filing time. A free quote is available based on your specific business structure and requirements.

My records are a mess — can you still get me MTD-compliant?+

Yes. Clients often arrive with books in some state of disarray — spreadsheets, paper receipts, or software that has not been touched for months. Catch-up bookkeeping is handled as part of onboarding, and the cost of getting records up to date is quoted transparently before any work begins. Once the backlog is cleared, the ongoing monthly process keeps things current without further scramble.

Is there a long-term contract, and what happens if I want to leave?+

There is no long-term contract. DG Accountancy operates on a rolling monthly basis, and you are free to leave with 30 days’ notice. If you do leave, your Xero records are yours — you take them with you, fully compliant and up to date. Nothing is held back and nothing is owed beyond the current month.

What is MTD for Income Tax, and when does it apply to me?+

MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) requires sole traders and landlords to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC, replacing the annual Self Assessment return for most income. It applies from April 2026 for those with qualifying income over £50,000, and from April 2027 for those over £30,000. The mandation threshold is expected to fall further in subsequent years. If you are self-employed or receive rental income, it is worth establishing your obligations now rather than when the deadline is imminent.

Will MTD change how much tax I pay?+

MTD does not alter your tax liability — it changes when and how you report it to HMRC. What it does do is make your income and profit visible on a quarterly basis rather than annually, which tends to surface the tax position earlier. For most clients that is a good thing: you know roughly what your tax bill will be before HMRC tells you, and there is more time to plan accordingly.
