Sound familiar?

VAT eating into time you do not have.

For most Dawlish business owners, VAT is not especially complicated — it is just one more thing sitting on the list. Quarterly deadlines arrive faster than expected, the Making Tax Digital rules keep shifting, and the nagging question of whether you are on the right VAT scheme never quite gets resolved. It is not that anything has gone badly wrong. It is just that nothing is running as smoothly as it should.

  • Quarterly deadlines creeping up with returns still not started
  • Unsure whether the flat rate, standard or cash accounting scheme suits you best
  • MTD software setup incomplete and no clear picture of what HMRC expects

What sorted looks like

With a VAT specialist handling the compliance, the quarterly rhythm becomes routine rather than a scramble. Your returns are filed on time, your scheme is reviewed against your actual figures, and MTD is set up properly — not bodged together at the last minute.

  • Returns prepared and submitted well ahead of each quarterly deadline
  • VAT scheme reviewed against your turnover and margins — on the right one from the start
  • Xero connected and MTD-compliant, with nothing outstanding from HMRC
  • Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no invoice surprises

Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for Dawlish businesses

There are plenty of accountants who will file your VAT return. Fewer will tell you whether you are on the wrong scheme, flag the threshold before you hit it, or reply the same day you ask.

🎯

Cross-sector VAT experience

Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — sectors with meaningfully different VAT treatments. That breadth means he has already seen most of the situations that catch businesses out, whether that is partial exemption, reverse charge on construction services, or the nuances of the flat rate scheme. You will not be the test case.

Questions answered the day you ask

VAT queries rarely arrive at convenient times. An unexpected HMRC letter, a supplier asking about your VAT number, a question about a large purchase — these need an answer quickly. DG Accountancy is known for fast, clear replies rather than a wait of several days for a two-line response.

☁️

MTD-ready from day one

Making Tax Digital compliance is not an add-on — it is the foundation. Your Xero account is configured correctly, your bank feeds are connected, and every VAT return is submitted digitally in line with HMRC requirements. No spreadsheet patches, no manual workarounds.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is straightforward and most of the work is on our side, not yours.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current VAT setup and what you need. No sales pitch — just an honest discussion about whether we are the right fit for you.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a clear, written quote based on your business structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.

3

Xero setup and onboarding

We set up or tidy your Xero account, connect your bank feeds and configure everything for MTD. You hand over your records once — we take it from there.

4

VAT running like clockwork

Your quarterly returns are filed on time, your scheme is reviewed as your business changes, and any HMRC correspondence is dealt with promptly. The compliance is handled — you focus on running the business.

Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most

Do you handle VAT for businesses in Dawlish specifically, or is it just a general service?+

DG Accountancy operates as a fully online practice, so the service is the same whether you are based in Dawlish, Newton Abbot or anywhere else in the UK. All returns are filed digitally, communication happens via email, phone and video call, and your Xero records are accessible in real time. Location is not a limitation — it simply does not come into it.

What does VAT specialist support cost, and what is included in the fee?+

Pricing depends on your business structure, turnover and the services required. VAT filing is included from the Operate package upward for limited companies, and available as a standalone add-on for sole traders on the entry-level plan. All fees are fixed and agreed in writing before any work begins — no hourly rates, no end-of-month surprises. A free quote is available with no obligation.

My VAT records are behind and my Xero is a mess — can you still help?+

This is a fairly common situation, and it is entirely manageable. The first step is a catch-up exercise to bring your records up to date before we establish a clean monthly routine. There may be a one-off catch-up fee depending on how far behind things are, but that will be quoted clearly upfront. We have seen considerably worse — and sorted it.

Am I tied into a contract? What happens if I want to leave?+

There is no long-term contract. Services are provided on a rolling monthly basis, and you can give notice at any time. If you decide to leave, you will receive clean, up-to-date records and everything HMRC needs — nothing is held back. The aim is to make it worth staying, not difficult to leave.

How do you know which VAT scheme is right for my business?+

The flat rate, standard and cash accounting schemes each suit different business profiles, and the right choice depends on your margins, your customer mix and your turnover trajectory. As part of the onboarding process, Daniel reviews your figures and gives a clear recommendation. It is also reviewed annually — the scheme that worked when you first registered may not be the most favourable one now.

Will you let me know before I hit the VAT registration threshold?+

Yes. Your rolling twelve-month taxable turnover is monitored as part of the ongoing bookkeeping, and you will be told well in advance if you are approaching the registration threshold. The current threshold is £90,000 and a breach of it triggers a legal obligation to register within 30 days. Missing that deadline carries a penalty — it is one of the things that is considerably easier to avoid when someone is keeping an eye on the numbers.
