Sound familiar?
VAT eating into time you do not have.
For most Newton Abbot business owners, VAT is not the complicated bit — it is just the bit that keeps coming back every quarter whether you are ready or not. Missed deadlines attract automatic penalties. The VAT threshold creeps up without warning. MTD has added another layer of software and submission requirements that nobody fully explains. Which is, frankly, a poor use of a Tuesday afternoon.
- Quarterly deadlines arriving faster than the paperwork is ready
- Uncertainty about whether turnover is approaching the VAT threshold
- Making Tax Digital requirements unclear and software not set up correctly
What sorted VAT looks like
Your returns go out on time, your threshold is watched, and your Xero account submits to HMRC automatically. You know what you owe before the deadline — not the day after.
- Returns prepared and filed every quarter with nothing left to the last minute
- Turnover monitored so the VAT threshold is never crossed without warning
- Xero connected and MTD-compliant from day one — submissions automated
- Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise bills for extra VAT work
What clients say about working with us
Newton Abbot businesses that came to DG Accountancy with compliance headaches tended to leave with considerably less to think about.
I worked with Daniel at DG Accountancy to review and sign off my sole trader accounts for a time-sensitive mortgage application, and the service was excellent. Daniel was extremely responsive, clear, and professional throughout. He understood exactly what the lender required, turned everything around very quickly without cutting corners. Communication was straightforward and reassuring, which made a potentially stressful part of the mortgage process much easier. Fees were transparent, turnaround was fast, and the work was done thoroughly and accurately. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Daniel to anyone needing reliable accountancy support, particularly where deadlines really matter.
Professional service. This company does my accounts every year and i never have to worry about it. Speedy as well. I am a very happy customer.
VAT compliance covered, start to finish
From registration through to quarterly filing and MTD setup, each element is handled as part of a fixed monthly fee — no surprise charges when something needs doing.
Quarterly VAT Returns Filed
Your VAT return is prepared from your Xero records and submitted to HMRC each quarter before the deadline. No chasing you for figures, no last-minute scrambles — the process runs to a schedule you can rely on. Penalties for late or inaccurate returns are largely avoidable when this is handled correctly from the outset.
Included in Operate, Grow and ScaleMTD Setup and Compliance
Making Tax Digital requires VAT returns to be submitted through HMRC-approved software, with a digital record trail from invoice to submission. Your Xero account is configured to meet these requirements from day one, and the submissions go through automatically. You do not need to understand the technical side of MTD — that is handled.
Included as standardVAT Registration and Threshold Monitoring
If your taxable turnover is approaching the £90,000 threshold, you will know about it in advance — not after crossing it. VAT registrations, deregistrations and scheme changes (including the flat rate and annual accounting schemes) are handled without you needing to navigate HMRC’s online portal. The right scheme for your business is considered from the start.
Proactive advice includedConsistent results across different clients
From sole traders handling VAT for the first time to limited companies needing quarterly compliance and proactive advice, the feedback tends to cover the same ground: responsive, clear, and worth it.
Knowledge in Tax Saves Real Money
“Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could.”
Self-Employed Tax Finally Off the Plate
“Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!”
Patient, Clear and Couldn’t Recommend More
“Daniel was very helpful and patient with me when I had no clue what to do and spoke through everything with me and made it clear, couldn’t recommend him enough, thank you again.”
Why Newton Abbot businesses choose us for VAT
There is no shortage of accountants. The difference tends to show up when a deadline is approaching, a question needs answering quickly, or HMRC sends something unexpected.
VAT expertise across multiple sectors
Daniel has handled VAT across construction, manufacturing, hospitality, e-commerce and professional services — industries where the rules differ significantly. That cross-sector experience means the right VAT scheme for your business is identified from the start, not discovered two years in. You will not be paying for on-the-job learning.
Questions answered the day you ask
VAT queries rarely wait for a convenient moment. A supplier asks whether to charge VAT, a customer questions an invoice, or HMRC sends a letter that needs a response. DG Accountancy is known for same-day replies during office hours — so you get an answer before the situation becomes a problem.
MTD-ready from the first month
Making Tax Digital is not optional — but the setup process should not fall on you. Your Xero account is configured to meet HMRC’s digital record-keeping requirements, with bank feeds connected and submissions automated. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week, and the quarterly cycle runs without manual intervention after that.
Up and running in four steps
Most Newton Abbot clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is straightforward — and most of the effort is on our side, not yours.

Receive your fixed-fee quote
You will get a written quote covering everything agreed, with nothing hidden in the small print. The price is fixed before work begins, so there are no surprises when the first return goes in.
Xero setup and onboarding
Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds connected, and MTD compliance configured. If you have a backlog of unreconciled VAT or records in disarray, that is handled as part of onboarding — you do not need to sort it before coming to us.
VAT handled every quarter
Returns go in on time, your threshold is monitored, and any scheme changes or HMRC correspondence are dealt with as they arise. Your VAT compliance runs in the background — which is exactly where it should be.
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
Answers to the questions we hear most
Do you handle VAT for businesses in Newton Abbot, or is this only for Torquay-based clients?
DG Accountancy operates as a fully online practice, so location is not a limiting factor. Newton Abbot businesses receive exactly the same service as clients based in Torquay or anywhere else in the UK — VAT returns, MTD compliance and threshold monitoring are all managed remotely through Xero and secure file sharing. You do not need to come to an office, and we do not need to come to you.
What does VAT support cost, and what is included?
VAT filing is included as standard in the Operate, Grow and Scale limited company packages (from £195 per month), and as an add-on to the Start package and sole trader tiers. All fees are fixed, agreed in writing before any work begins, and billed monthly. The first three months are available at 50% off for new limited company and sole trader clients. A tailored quote is provided after the discovery call.
My VAT records are behind — can you still help?
Yes. Clients regularly arrive with records that have not been reconciled for several months, or VAT returns that should have gone in already. Catch-up work is discussed during onboarding, costed transparently, and completed before the live service begins. Coming to us with books in disarray is not a problem — it is one of the more common starting points.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. There is no lock-in period beyond the initial month. If the arrangement is not working after three months, you can leave with your records up to date and nothing further owed. The aim is to be useful enough that you choose to stay — not to make leaving difficult.
Can you help if HMRC has contacted me about a VAT issue or compliance check?
Yes. HMRC VAT enquiries and compliance checks are handled as part of the ongoing service. If a letter arrives, it is reviewed and responded to on your behalf. The process is considerably less alarming when someone who knows the relevant rules is dealing with the correspondence rather than the business owner.
Can you advise on which VAT scheme is most beneficial for my business?
Yes. The standard VAT scheme is not always the most efficient option. The flat rate scheme, cash accounting scheme and annual accounting scheme each suit different business profiles, and the right choice depends on your turnover, margins and cash flow pattern. This is assessed at the outset and reviewed if your circumstances change.
VAT off your plate, permanently.
Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified, same-day replies. Your VAT returns filed on time every quarter, your threshold monitored, your MTD compliance sorted — and nothing to figure out yourself.
