Sound familiar?

Still guessing what your tax bill will be?

Most Exeter business owners only find out what they owe HMRC once the year is over — by which point the planning options have largely gone. Allowances get missed, reliefs go unclaimed, and the odd letter from HMRC sits in a drawer getting worse. None of it is inevitable. It is mostly a consequence of not having someone looking at the numbers regularly.

  • Tax bill arrives as a surprise with no time left to plan
  • Allowances and reliefs missed because no one was watching
  • HMRC letters building up with no clear plan for responding

What having a tax advisor looks like

Your tax position is reviewed regularly, not just at year end. Reliefs are flagged before the deadlines pass. And when HMRC gets in touch, you get a plain-English explanation and a clear next step — not silence.

  • Your tax liability visible well in advance, not the week it is due
  • Allowances and reliefs reviewed proactively before each deadline
  • HMRC correspondence dealt with promptly and explained clearly
  • Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no unexpected invoices

What Exeter clients say about the service

Across sole traders, limited companies and self-employed professionals, the feedback tends to come back to three things: speed, clarity and tax savings.

★★★★★

Daniel was very helpful with my books and tax return. He offered great advise and insight in how to manage my books better and more efficiently. His knowledge in tax law and what can be used for expenses really helped with saving money where I could. As a sole trader it’s really hard to keep on top of things and have now asked Dan to do monthly books for me. His rates are extremely good compared to some other accountants out there and I get more for my money.

Huge thanks to Daniel for helping ourselves with our taxes! Being self employed means we all have to do this ourselves which is just not possible on top of our work load. Thanks again! We will be using you again!

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for Exeter clients

There is no shortage of accountants in Devon. What is less common is one who responds quickly, explains things clearly and already understands how your type of business works.

🎯

Twenty Years Across Real Businesses

Daniel has worked in-house across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — not just in practice. That means he already understands the financial pressures, timing issues and tax decisions that come up in diverse businesses. You will not spend the first six months explaining your trade.

Questions Get Answered Promptly

The most common complaint about accountants is that they go quiet. DG Accountancy is known specifically for fast replies and clear communication. You ask a question during office hours; you get an answer the same day.

💬

Tax Explained Without the Jargon

HMRC guidance is dense enough on its own. Daniel translates your obligations, your options and your position into plain English — so you understand what is happening with your money and why, not just what to sign.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed so that most of the work sits with us, not with you.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short conversation about your business, your current setup and what you actually need. No sales pitch — just an honest discussion about whether the fit is right.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

You get a clear, written quote tailored to your structure and the services you need. Everything is agreed upfront, so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives.

3

Onboarding and Xero setup

Your Xero account is set up or tidied up, bank feeds connected, and everything gathered that is needed to get started. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week.

4

Compliance handled, growth supported

Your returns run on schedule, your tax position is reviewed proactively, and questions get answered the day you ask them. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

What people ask before getting in touch

I am based in Exeter — does that matter if you are in Torquay?+

Not at all. DG Accountancy operates entirely online, serving clients across Devon and the wider UK via Xero, video calls and secure file sharing. Exeter clients get exactly the same service as those around the corner in Torquay. Distance has not been a barrier for any client to date.

What does a tax advisor actually cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is fixed monthly, agreed upfront, and tailored to your business structure and complexity. Limited company packages start from £79 per month; sole trader packages from £41 per month. Self Assessment, Corporation Tax and year-end accounts are included in most tiers, with proactive tax planning included from the Grow plan upward. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoices.

My books are behind and I am not sure what state my records are in. Can you still help?+

Yes — catch-up bookkeeping and getting records in order before taking on ongoing work is something handled regularly. The onboarding conversation will establish exactly what is needed to get things current. Most clients who arrive in some state of disarray leave the onboarding process with considerably less to worry about.

Am I tied into a long-term contract?+

No. There is no lock-in. If after three months the arrangement is not working for you, you leave with your books in good order and nothing further owed. The goal is to earn your continued business each month, not to lock you in.

Can you help with HMRC investigations or if I have received a compliance check letter?+

Yes. HMRC correspondence — whether a routine enquiry or a more formal compliance check — is handled as part of the service. You will receive a plain-English explanation of what HMRC is asking, what your options are, and what happens next. Early engagement with these matters is almost always better than leaving them to sit.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

On the Operate plan and above, a tax review is conducted annually well ahead of year end, which gives a clear picture of your expected liability before it becomes due. On the Grow and Scale plans, quarterly reviews and proactive tax optimisation mean your position is monitored throughout the year — not just at filing time.
