Most Exeter business owners we speak to are either behind on their books, unsure what their next tax bill will be, or waiting too long for answers from their current accountant. All three are fixable. Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified, same-day replies during office hours.

  • Your tax position is clear well before the deadline arrives
  • VAT threshold monitored — no unexpected registration surprises
  • Books current every month, MTD-compliant and accessible in Xero
  • One accountant throughout — no juniors, no handoffs

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill is this year?

Exeter is home to a busy mix of contractors, professional service firms, independent retailers and growing limited companies. What most of them have in common is an accountant who is hard to reach, books that are months behind, and a tax bill that arrives as a surprise rather than a plan. It does not have to work that way.

  • ✕ Books three months behind and no clear picture of profit
  • ✕ Waiting days for replies to simple questions from your accountant
  • ✕ Tax bill arrives without warning and no time to prepare

What sorted looks like

Your compliance runs on time, your numbers are current, and your accountant replies the day you ask. That is the baseline — and it is straightforward to reach.

  • ✓ Books reconciled monthly in Xero — always current, always accessible
  • ✓ Questions answered the day you ask, not days later
  • ✓ Tax liability calculated and communicated months ahead of the deadline
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee agreed upfront — no surprise invoices

Why DG Accountancy

What makes the difference for Exeter businesses

There are plenty of accountants in and around Exeter. Here is what actually changes when you work with one who responds quickly, explains clearly and already understands your sector.

🎯

Twenty Years Across Real Industries

Daniel has worked in airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — not just accountancy practice. That breadth means he already understands the pressures facing Exeter contractors, hospitality operators and professional service businesses before the first call. You will not be explaining your business model from scratch.

Replies the Day You Ask

Most accountant complaints come down to one thing: being ignored for days. DG Accountancy is known for fast, direct responses. Ask a question on a Tuesday morning and you will have a useful answer by Tuesday afternoon. Which is, frankly, the way it should work.

☁️

Cloud-First, Always Accessible

Everything runs through Xero — bank feeds connected, records reconciled in real time, and your figures accessible whenever you need them. No waiting for your accountant to open the books, no shoeboxes of receipts at year end. Your numbers are current because they are maintained that way throughout the year.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most new clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to be straightforward from your side — the heavy lifting happens at this end.

1

Book a free discovery call

A short call to talk through your business, your current set-up and what you actually need. No sales pitch — just an honest conversation about whether this is the right fit. You will leave the call knowing exactly what happens next.

2

Receive your fixed-fee quote

A written quote arrives within one working day, tailored to your business structure and the services you need. Every line is explained. Everything is agreed before anything starts — no ambiguity about what is included.

3

Onboarding and Xero setup

We set up your Xero account or tidy up the existing one, connect your bank feeds and gather what is needed to get started. If the books are behind, we handle the catch-up. Most clients are fully onboarded within a week.

4

Compliance handled, focus restored

Your returns are filed on time, your books are current every month, and your tax position is clear well in advance of deadlines. Less of your time spent on admin, fewer surprises, and an accountant who picks up the phone when you call.

Questions

Things Exeter clients usually ask first

I run a business in Exeter — do I need a local accountant, or does online work just as well?+

For the vast majority of accounting work — bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, self assessment, year-end accounts — there is no practical difference between a local firm and a well-run online practice. DG Accountancy works with clients across Devon and the UK entirely remotely via Xero, video calls and secure file sharing. Exeter clients get the same responsive service as anyone else, without having to travel to an office for a meeting.

What does it cost, and what is actually included in the monthly fee?+

Limited company packages start from £79 per month and sole trader packages from £41 per month, with 50% off for the first three months. Each package is fixed and agreed upfront — no hourly billing, no surprise invoices. What is included depends on the tier: the Start package covers year-end accounts and corporation tax, while Operate and above add VAT, payroll, self assessment and quarterly reviews. A written quote is provided before anything is agreed.

My books are behind and slightly chaotic — is that a problem for switching?+

It is the most common situation when a new client comes across. Messy books are a reason to switch accountants, not a reason to delay. We assess what needs catching up, include a clear quote for any catch-up work, and get everything tidy before the ongoing service begins. The onboarding process is designed around the reality that records are rarely in perfect order.

Is there a long-term contract or notice period?+

No long-term contract. If the arrangement is not working after three months, you are free to leave with your books in order and nothing further owed. Clients tend to stay because the service is useful, not because they are contractually obliged to. That is the way it should be.

Can you help with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax — does that affect me as a sole trader in Exeter?+

MTD for Income Tax applies to sole traders and landlords with qualifying income above the relevant threshold and is being phased in from April 2026 onwards. All sole trader packages include MTD compliance as standard. If you are unsure whether or when it applies to your specific income level, that is exactly the kind of question that gets answered on the discovery call.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

On the Operate tier and above, your tax position is reviewed at least annually — and on Grow and Scale, quarterly. The goal is that your corporation tax or self assessment liability is calculated and communicated to you with enough lead time to plan for it. A tax bill that arrives as a surprise is generally a symptom of books that are not being maintained properly throughout the year.

Ready when you are

Less time on the books, more on the business.

Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified, Xero-based and fully online. Exeter businesses get the same responsive service as any client across the UK — and the books to prove it.
