Sound familiar?
Not sure what you owe, or when?
Most people filing Self Assessment are not doing it wrong on purpose. They are doing it late, missing expenses they were entitled to claim, or guessing at figures they are not entirely confident about. The January deadline focuses the mind, but it does not make the return any clearer — and a penalty from HMRC for late or inaccurate filing is an entirely avoidable outcome.
- Leaving it until January and scrambling to find records and receipts
- Not confident you are claiming every expense you are genuinely entitled to
- Unsure whether the return is accurate enough to withstand HMRC scrutiny
What a handled Self Assessment looks like
Your records are gathered, your expenses reviewed properly, and your return filed well before the deadline. You know your tax bill in advance, with a clear explanation of how it was calculated and what, if anything, can be done about it.
- Return filed well ahead of January — no last-minute scramble
- Every allowable expense reviewed and correctly applied to your return
- Accurate, compliant filing you do not need to worry about after submission
- Fixed fee agreed upfront — no surprises when the invoice arrives

Why Torbay clients choose us for Self Assessment
There are plenty of accountants who will file your return. Fewer who will make sure it is right, explain it clearly, and tell you in advance what you owe.
20 Years of Real-World Tax Knowledge
Daniel has worked across airlines, construction, manufacturing and entertainment — sectors where tax positions are rarely straightforward. That breadth means he spots the things a less experienced accountant might miss, whether it is an overlooked expense category or an income stream that needs careful handling. You get that depth applied to your return, not a junior working from a checklist.
Questions Answered the Day You Ask
Self Assessment raises questions — about what counts as an expense, whether a payment is taxable, what happens if your income varied. At DG Accountancy, those questions get answered the same day, in plain English. You will not wait three days for a reply and receive a two-line email in return.
Your Tax Bill Explained, Not Just Filed
Filing a return is the easy part. Understanding it is what most clients actually want. Daniel explains what your figures mean, how the liability was calculated, and whether there is anything worth considering before next year. Which is, frankly, what an accountant is for.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to put as little on your plate as possible.
Book a free discovery call
A short conversation about your income sources, your current setup, and what you need from an accountant. No sales pitch — just an honest assessment of whether we are the right fit and what your return will involve.
Receive your fixed-fee quote
You will receive a clear, written quote based on your income type and complexity. Everything is agreed upfront, so you know exactly what you are paying before any work begins.
Send across your records
Daniel will tell you precisely what is needed — bank statements, invoices, P60, rental income figures — and the process of gathering it is simpler than most people expect. Secure file sharing means nothing needs to be posted.
Return filed, tax bill known
Your return is prepared, reviewed with you, and filed with HMRC. You know your liability in advance, you know what to pay and when, and you have an accountant on hand if anything changes during the year.
“Excellent service providing financial accounts for probate. Quick, efficient and friendly. Would highly recommend.”
Common questions about Self Assessment
I have multiple income streams — employment, freelance and rental income. Can you handle all of that in one return?
Yes, and it is exactly the kind of return where having the right accountant matters. Multiple income sources mean multiple reporting requirements — PAYE income, self-employment profits, rental income, dividend income — each with their own rules and allowances. Daniel works with clients across all of those situations and will make sure everything is captured correctly in a single return.
What does Self Assessment actually cost, and what is included?
Self Assessment is included in the sole trader packages (from £41 per month) and in the Operate, Grow and Scale limited company packages. For standalone returns, a fixed fee is agreed upfront before any work begins. There are no hourly rates and no additional charges for questions or amendments during the process. You know the cost before you commit.
My records are in a bit of a state. Is that a problem?
It is a common starting point and not an obstacle. Daniel will tell you exactly what is needed to complete the return accurately and work with whatever records you have. If there are gaps, he will flag them and advise on the most practical way to fill them. Arriving with imperfect records is not unusual — leaving with a correctly filed return is the goal.
Am I locked into a contract if I sign up?
There is no long-term contract. If you sign up for a monthly package and decide it is not right after three months, you can leave with your records in good order and nothing further owed. For standalone Self Assessment work, you pay a fixed fee for that year’s return, with no ongoing commitment unless you want one.
What is the deadline for filing my Self Assessment, and what happens if I miss it?
Paper returns must be filed by 31 October; online returns by 31 January following the end of the tax year. Missing the online deadline results in an automatic £100 penalty, with further daily charges if it remains outstanding. HMRC also charges interest on any tax paid late. Filing early eliminates penalty risk entirely and means you know your liability well in advance of the payment date.
Can you help me reduce my tax bill, or is Self Assessment just about compliance?
Compliance is the minimum — making sure the return is accurate and filed on time. Beyond that, Daniel reviews your figures to ensure every allowable expense is claimed and considers whether your income structure is tax-efficient. For clients with more complex arrangements, that conversation can extend into tax planning for the year ahead. It is worth having the conversation before the return is filed, not after.
